She holds membership in the national honor society, student council and is the secretary of the senior class. Miss Whitmer is expecting to go to Hanover College at Madison. Indiana where she will enroll and major in school studies. She plans to go into education. Indiana and study elementary education. Miss Limbert is a member of the nation d honor society and has worked on the school newspaper. Spe< ml services and an open house arc scheduled Sunday, May 10. as members of the Walkerton United Methodist Church move into their new building. Regular worship services will be held at 8:30 and 11 am. The cornerstone will be laid immediately following the 11 o'clock ; session. At 3 p.m. the chancel choir will present a vesper service featuring soloist James Green of Oak Lawn, Illinois. A baritone, Green has been soloist for the last 13 years with the Morgan Park, (Ill.) Baptist Church Open house will be held from 3:30 until 6 p.m. Church youth will conduct guided tours for guests through the new building. Refreshments will also be served The church is located directly across from John Glenn High School on the south edge of Walkerton. A $300,000 building, the I church consists of a huge chancel an a with sacristy and choir section, nave area seating 350 persons, pastor’s office, church offeie, library, choir room, nurse.y and fellowship hall which can be divided into three classrooms. The narthex is divided from the nave area by clear glass * teaching to tiie ceiling. Colored , glass rectangular windows cast glowing highlights in the sanctuary, where the high beamed ceiling and seating arrangement provide an atmosphere of fellowship and intimacy. The air-conditioned building is completely carpeted and contains all custom-made furnishings Mathews, Purucher & Associates of South Bend served as architects. The new structure is the first phase of a two-stage building program The second 'stage will 1 be the erection of an educational unit. In 1907 the Methodists dedi- ' rated a new building, which was destroyed by fire in 1936. In 1937 the Methodists dedir ated their new church, the present Illinois Street Building. The . Boh Gowin Resigns As North Liberty Basketball Mentor Bob Gowin. head basketball 1 coach at North Liberty High S'hool, has resigned is 1- id 1 basketball coach, after his b uns posted winning seasons in three out of seven as head coach. Bob said, ’'The pressures of head coaching, especially after a couple ot rathi r poor seasons, have become just to much." Bob will remain at North Lib--1 erty High School as head baseball coach, a position he assumed this spring. Gowin, a 1953 graduate of - Marion, Indiana High School where he played basketball and baseball, signed a professional baseball contract with the Ameri- * can League's Baltimore Orioles, but played only one season with 1 the club's Thomasville, Georgia farm team in 1934. Prior to joining the North Lib- : erty faculty in 1963, he coached ' one season at Mt. Summit in the N-vv Cistle are.i and three more at Silver Lake. PLI Summer Math And Language Arts Program Polk-Lincoln-J onnsun School Coipralion will be offering a summer school program designed to give the student individual attention in skills this student shows greatest deficiencies. The program is open to students presently enrolled in Walkerton Elementary, Urey Middle School, and St. Patricks.
