Head-On Crash Claims One Victim's Life Mrs. Annie Pearl Zahm, 48. route 1, Walkerton, died in Memorial hospital, South Bend, at 4:45 a.m. on Friday of injuries suffered in a two car headon collision on Indiana 23, two and a half miles north of North Liberty at 9:15 p.m. Thursday evening, March 12. Eight other persons were injured also in the collision. Mrs. Zahrn was riding in a car driven by her husband, Gerald, 50. who was admitted to Memorial hosllsted in satisfactory condition tured ribs, nose and knee. Their daughters, Judy, 10. and Barbara. 12, were released a/ter treatment for multiple bruises. Another passenger in the Zahrn car was Mrs. Shirley Lute, 26, route 2, Walkerton. She was also taken to Memorial and was listed in satisfactory condition with severe head cuts. Her children, Tammy, 4 and Robin, 1 were both released following observation and no injuries were found. The driver of the other car was Eugene Pinkston. 59. 820 W. Colfax Avenue. South Bend, was treated for abrasions and bruises and released and taken to the St. Joseph County jail, without bond, pending a coroner’s investigation of the death. His passenger. Howard Litteral, 45, route 2, North Liberty, was released from the hospital after treatment for bruises. State police said the Zahrn vehicle was traveling south on Indiana 23 and the Pinkston car was northbound on 23 when he apparently veered across the mid-stripe into the path of the Zahrn auto. Pinkston was charged with reckless driving, driving while under the influence of alcohol, driving left of center and not having an operator's license. Ken Bergner. pastor of the First United Pieshyteuan Church, Walkerton. officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Walkerton. Survivors include her husband, Gerald; a son. Freddie Miller at home; two daughters, Barbara and Judy Zahrn, both at home, two brothers, Richard Hamm of Wilmington, North Carolina and Otis Hamm ot Morehead City, North Carolina; and two sisters. Mrs. Magnets Lute of Mishawaka and Mrs. Violet Newman of Texas. She was born on April 1. 1921. in Tabor. North Liberty. She was married October 28. 1955. in Wilmington, North Carolina. She lived here since 1955, coming from Wilmington. North Liberty Spring Concert Friday, March 20 The North Liberty vocal music department of the high school ami elementary school will present a spring concert on Friday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the North Liberty High School gymnasium David Spellman is the director. Admission will be 50 cents. Adult Education Golf Classes To Be Offered The Adult Edcation Department at John Glenn High School will offer a class in golf. The class will meet for five sessions. The first class will meet on April 27 at 8:00 p.m. at the high school. The first meeting will be orientation and registration. The classes will be held at Swan Lake Golf Course on Ply-mouth-Laporte Trail in Polk Township. The exact date and time when the clases at Swan Lake will meet will be arranged at the April 27 meeting. The fee for the class will be $5.00. Registration for the class can be made by calling the John Glenn High School at 586-3195. If you should have any question concerning the golf class, feel free to contact Al Boise, Adult Education Director at the high school. Easter Egg Hunt On March 28 In Walkerton The Volunteer Foremen of Walkerton and Lincoln Township sponsor the Ester Egg Hunt annually and this year the Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday. March 28 at 2:00 pm in Place Park. Rain date has been set for Sunday, March 29 also at 2 pm. “Memories Os Easter Morn” To Be Presented Sun. The North Liberty Community Easter Cantata. "Memories of Easter Morn,” will be presented March 22, 1970 (Palm Sunday) at 2:30 p.m and 7:30 p.m. in the North Liberty Church of the Brethem. The cantata is under the direction of Mrs. Carl Good with Mrs. Charles Johnson as organist and Rev. Tom Jones, pianist. The choir consists of approxirnatelv 50 voices. Soloists: Marianna Gradeless. Hahn, 72, 600 Ohio Street, Walkerton, died at 7:30 p m Tuesday, in the E Street Division Hospital. Laporte after a short illness. He was a retired farmer. He was born on July 1, 1897 in Canton, Illinois and had lived m Walkerton since 1913, coining from Canton On December 26, 1917 in Walkerton, he was married to the former Mamie Beaty who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Mn Regina Wells and Mrs. Vivian Williams both of Walkerton, Mrs. Pauline Farrer of Bremen; one son. Leigh Roy Hahn Sr, of Walkerton; twelve grnadi hildren and fourteen great-grandchild-ren; and a sister. Mrs. Nellie Smith of Walkerton. WALKERTON TOWN BOARD NEWS The Board of Trustees of the Town of Walkerton convened in regular session, Tuesday Evening, Mrach 17th with full membership responding. Meeting was opened with approval of minutes of previous session and passage and approval of outstanding claims. Resolution was adopted commending various local citizens who have compiled with Boards requests to rid their properties of accumulated debris. It is hoped with weather conditions permitting that 100', cooperation will be reached throughout the community without further urging on Boards behalf. Board approved new speed Control regulations as recommended by the State Highway Commission and vv hich will be presented to the Highway Commission for consideration, prior an official approval by the Commission Suggested new controls for US. 6 are as follows: 45MPH eastbound ti tffic on US 6 from 1000 feet west of SR 101 to SR 101, 45 MPH all traific on US 6 between John Glenn Drive and the Marshall-St. Joseph Co Line; 35 MPH all traffic on US 6 between SR 104 and Washington Street; 35 MPH all traffic between Virginia St. and the John Glenn Drive. 25 MPH all traffic on US 6 between Washington St. and Virginia St. Board was advised the new revised traffic controls suggested have been determined following proper engineering investigation and survey.
