The St. Michael's Catholic Church of Plymouth was the scene for the wedding between Mlm Virginia Ruth Houin ond Gary Mcchling on Saturday, January 24. Bouquets of White gladioli and pompons decorated the altar. The Rev. Lawrence Tippman performed the doublering ceremony. Bridal musci was played on the organ by Mrs Jean Houin and Mrs. Eddie Wright was the vocalist. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer V. Houin. R.R 4, Plymouth. Mrs. Harry Mechling, R.R 1, Walkerton, and the late Mr. Mechling are the parents of the bridegroom. After a Florida honeymoon, the newlyweds will be at home at 401 East Eighth Street. The fitted bodice featured a stand-up collar of lace and mutton sleeves tapering to snug cuffs at the wrist. A band of rose lace encircled the gown's full skirt. Her chapel length veil, edged with the lace, was caught by a lace Camelot cap, and she carrh'd a cascade bouquet of white roses and pompon mums. The bride’s sister. Miss Jeanette Houin, was maid of honor, and bridesmaids were the Misses Susan and Linda Houin, sisters of the bride, and Margaret Mechling. sister of the bridegroom. Their cranberry red velvet gowns were styled in the
princess line with long, bell sleeves, and were trimmed with ecru lace. Matching velvet with lace trim formed their headpieces. Ea< h carried a single pink American Beauty rose Miss Marlene Houin, the bride s sister and flower girl, was also dressed in cranberry red velvet. Chris Houin, brother of the bride, bore the ring. Robert Mechling acted as his brother s best man. Groomsmen were Glendon Becker of Bremen. William Hiatt of Walkerton, and David Houin, the bride's brother. James Mechling. brother of the groom, and Floyd Houin. brother of the bride, ushered guests to their seats. The wedding cake at the reception in St. Michael's School Hall, featured a pink fountain between the top layers. It was served to the 175 guests by Mrs. David Houin. Mrs. Kent Mattix, sister of the bride, and Miss Hariet Mechling, sister of the groom. The bride is a graduate of Plymouth High School and attended Ancilla Domini College. She is now a sophmore at Indiana University. A junior at Indiana University, Mr. Mechling is a graduate of Walkerton High School. DECORATIONS CHAIRMAN FOR FESTIVAL MBH BETTY VANBUSKIRK Mrs. Betty Vanßuskirk is the chairman for the third annual Summer Festival in Walkerton. Members of her committee are busy laying the initial plans for "Grand Old American Days.'' Mrs. Vanßuskirk stated that the merchants will be called on in the very near future and hetcommittee will help them to select a motif for decorations in keeping with the theme. Street decorations will also accent the general theme. Boj-s get on the wrong track because of a misplaced switch.
