Mcßride Sausage And Pancake Benefit This Saturday At LaVille

On Saturday, September 13, beginning at 4 pm. the Sausage and Pancake B nefit Supper tor the Jim Mcßride Family will be held at LaVille High School. The Mcßrides’ son, Randy, suffering (from a kidney disease for some time, has been receiving treutm» nt three times a we' k m a Chicago Hospital. Serving will continue until 8 p m. The sponsors of the benefit are the Likeville Lions Club, the North Liberty Lions, and the Greene Township community, where the Mcßnd s’ reside. Tickets are available from members of the Lions of these two clubs, and also from other area Lions Club members. Ticket donation prices are $1.50 for adults, and 75c for children under 12. Several other civic groups are helping in various ways to help make this a success. Many workers are needed to help With the serving of food, and for the cleanup details following the dinner. Citizens or groups wishing to help in this big fund-rais-ing project may present their donations to "The Randy McBride Fund,” % of the Central State Bank, Lakeville. Chamber To Meet Today At Heil's Restaurant The Walkerton Chamber of Commerce will meet today (Thursday) at Heirs Retawafie at 12:00 noon for their regular September meeting. All members are urged to be present at this meeting. Reservations should be made with the calling committee members or the secretary Bob Urbin. Punt; Pass And Kick Contest Is Set For Walker lon Thursday. September 11 is a big day for boys age 8 through 13 in the Walkerton area for they can start registering tor th ninth annual Punt, Pass Ai Kick Competition in which they will show their football skill- m punting, passing and kicking and compete for trophies an. I the chance to r present Walkerton in future competitions. Registration and entries will be accepted from September 2nd through October 10th at Walkerton Ford Sales. A I>arent or guardian must accompany the boys to register. The entire competition is absolutely free. There is no body contact in PP&K competitions and all equipment such as footballs and kicking tees are provided Every boy who registers will receive a free Ihmt, Pass & Kick Tips booklet which features stories and competition tips from NFL stars Dun Meredith and Mike Clark of the Dallas Cowboys and Billy Lothridge of the Atlanta Falcons. The booklet also features Don Shula, the coach of the Baltimore Colts, and includes physical fitness exercises for boys in the PP&K Competition age group Every boy who participates in has on equal chance to win for he comp tea only against boys In bls own age group. Points are awarded for each foot of distance the ball travels on the fly, with points subtract"'! for each foot the ball lands to the right or left o f a center line. The ovarall competition is divided into six levels Local, Zone, District, area, Division and National. The first level — the Local competition — features 18 handsome trophies which will b awarded locally by Walkerton Ford Seles. Gold trophies go to first place finishers, silver to second. »fhd bronae to third. The first place winners then move up to Zone competition Winner of Zone competitions will receive trophies and runner - up are awarded certificates. Zone winners movt to District competitions where 216 District champions will be awarded trophies and go on to compete for Area championships at NFL stadiums. Area champs trawl to Divisional competitions in NFL stadiums in Dallas or Detroit where twelve finalists are chosen six from the NEL Eastern division and six from th NFL Western division. Winners arc accompanied by both parents to all Area competitions The twelve Division winners go, with their parents, to the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida, for the National Finals faring the annual NFL Play-Off Gam . All 12 National finalist- and their parents will then tour Cape Kennedy, the site of the historic Apollo moon shot , and the Air Space Museum Ford Dealers of Anv rua and the National Football League sponsor the Punt, Pass and Kick Competition nationally. Cosponsors in Walkerton are Walkerton Ford Sales and Walkerton Jaycees. Jim Betz’s kick was taken on the 5 yard line and after good downfield coverage and a tackle missed right at th" goal line, the ball carri' r was dropped on the six to get th" play underway. After failing to make a first down, Caston punted and Curt Pletcher fielded the ball un the 40 and return d to the 23 where it was first and 10 for the Falcons. Jim Lute carried twice for a yard each time and Joe Jask" picked up three before a crucial fourth an-J five situation found Lute throwing a short pass to Pletcher who ran in for an 18 yard scoring play. Jaske pulled the extra point over and it was 8-0 after 4:05 had clasped in the opening period. Caston then moved the ball after the kickoff for one first down, but a fourth down pass attempt found the quarterback getting smeared by Kevin Hanni and Tim Johnson for a 10 yard loss. The Falcons moved from the Oaston 48 to the 12 b fore two incomplete passes failed to pick up a first down de. p in Caston territory. Two more <xchanges of the ball found the Falcons driving for the goal late in the half only to have an incomplete pass from the Caston 9 to end the half. No more scoring occured until th>' fourth period. The Falcons took possession on their own 33 late in the third quarter and with Jaske picking up two crucial third down plays for *irst downs, kept the drive alive until Jaske raced the final 24 yards on a fourth and two situation Tills came with 10 34 le t in C ° gam" and opened a 14-0 lead as the extra point run was not successful. Falcons Host North Judson Friday Night The John Glenn Falcons will host the North Judson Blue Jas in their horn • opener this Frid 15 night as the teams will square off at 8:00 pm. at the Glenn field. North Judson was a 6-0 loser to New Prairie in th-ir opener last Friday night and promises to make a good opponent for the Falcons again this year. In all, the Shamrocks had no trouble with their first stringers in but the game did even up somewhat with the Shamrock reserves taking the field.
