IT IS ALMOST 'l'l ME FOR tee HJinual All-Stai game to be played and this year the affair will be held in the nation's < pital under light < Being n ued to an All-Stm t* am is u !■ <1 honor, but pity in this game in most years has n>t been the ni"4 exciting, it k just a parade m durs. SOME MANAGERS GO ALL out to win the All-Star game an. others make an effort to put . •ty payer on their team m 1 • ■ gam*'. Both have tin u strong I 1 nts. but the juggling o' this i ; h t ilent s unetimes takes s> thing away from the actual pi i .. i HIS YEAR THE SQUADS It * * been inoe • d to .allow th< i aiders enough leeway to i t who thev will ma d. The p. ers. managers and coaches t . selves vote lof the t< am rX- । p ’or the pitchers. This \* o f| le g : n.i is a 1... ■ la tel and a' o the se:< ct i n is being made later. This gives mo ■ th m just om e around the Ie rm* as the divisional play is in le second swing within their own division. By this time there h • been some outstanding perfn i hkvs that will have to be i * idered by the players and it i a t<>o dit icult to speculate on m vof the players. \ THE AMERICAN LEAGUE h «w could anyone eliminate Regg Jackson and Erank Howard

as two o the outfielders. Jackson's start is simply fantastic as he has already knocked 34 homo runs out of American League parks and Howard's 32 isn't far behind. Frank Robinson, Reggie Smith or Tony Oliva would just about round out that outfield with even such as Paul Blair an 1 ('ail Yastrzemski not hurting it a bit. IN THE INFIELD. AGAIN several spots s cm to be nailed down. Hitmen Kilh brew has about lapped the Hi Id at third with Br icks Robin n hitting in the .230 range. Rio- I’etinceTi pretty well ba- ah' it lined up and Rod ('new - tremen lus .- art nas to gio . • ond. At •n-t 1:<. Bill Frerh.ci appea:.- t i lead the list of catchers. IN THE NATIONAL LEAGUE, probably mor- will bi m oe contested S ui'’ 2<i players arc hitting .300 hoe and play is such that the voting s'hould be more spread around. Cleon Jones and Matt;. Alm have been at the top of t a hitting list all year, but when voting cames hx-k for Hank Aaron to be at the top o the out ieHer-. Almost ev°ry spot in the infield has a couple of contenders. THIRD BASE LISTS SUCH as Ron Sante but you can't overlook, Tiny Perez. Dn Kissin_ei and Dennis M nke could battle it out for short-top and second base should be wide open. The first base spat should have the willies, Stargell and McCuvey battling it out in a real race. Johnny Benh and Randy Hund-
ley hive to be considered bp picks m the battle oi catcher. THE NATIONAL LEAGUE voting should be Very wide open. With 10 outfiildeis hitting over .300 and such as Willie Mays just undt i in the .29U s, it will be an interesting team this year. This league will probably again be the favoiite, but in this game of baseball and for one short series, the pitching can tell the tale. If the league's staff can give that good perform ince, it is all over but the bragging. THE SELECTION OF THE pitchers and reserves could follow funny patterns. The thing that must be taken into consideration is the fact ti.at all 1 teams in each league must be repiescnted. This meins that names will appear on the teams you would n »t normally expect to be tieie, but th..t is ihe way it must be. Tae man i ers also u. THE RESULTS WILL BE out soon and the game is less th ntw > weeks way a- another exciting baseball s< a.-m is at the hal way p lint with three of the four di’. i.'a n. in pretty go id penn nt iao - while the Baltimore Oria'es kill'd of nm away with tl.<e first part o the fourth division. The Chicagi Cubs were big leaders at one time, out recently the footstep- they heai arc the New Yuk Metslowly creeping up from behind. THE OTHER DIVISIONS are pretty wide open Mmne-ota and Oakland could battle all the way in th-; American League’s Wi-te*n Division an 1 the National League's Western Division has had four teams on top and the-" 'oui. plus Houston still are in the race. The Natl ml league has only teams over .500 in the East and fiw at that mark in the west while the American League is almost reversed with two at .500 in the West and four over that mark in the East.
