Koontz Lake Library News New’ books this week are: “A Place Called Saturday,” by Mary Astor, the actress, is a stunning novel. memorable for its forthright yet sensitive treatment of the moral, ethical and emotional problems of a subject too long shrouded by controversy —a pregnancy resulting from rape. Cora, the young wife, and victim. cannot accept her husband’s outraged arguments that an aborti<4T is the best solution. First, there is the very real possibility that her husband, not the rapist, is the father. And over-riding even this is Cora's insistence that the unborn infant deserves the right to live. Reluctantly, at last, her husband gives in and almost inevitably the seeds of estrangement are sown; their once indestructible marriage begins to falter. Another book by a well known actress, this one autobiographical, is "On Reflection” by Helen Hayes. It is because of her tenacious faith in the good of the world that she decided tv write this book as a legacy for her grandchildren; to be read one day when they are grown. In setting down all the family stories, the backstage anecdotes and her recollections of spiritual struggle, she has produced a legacy fur us all. All the Helens are here: the "unrehearsed child" and her ambitious mother, the young actress who so appealed to such luminaries as John Drew and William Gillette, the young woman who made a lasting marriage with a brilliant renegade named Charles MacArthur and the mother of Mary and Jim; and still, and always, the actress.
