Cold Falcons Lose Fourth To Morgan Township The ability of a group of basketball players to execute just what they were told to do and the inability of another group to hit the basket early and piny their chosen defense later, finally amounted to Morgan Twp. winning their first game in six starts *his year and continue the John Glenn Falcons losing streak, now at four games. A 62-58 victor by a school with "as many seniors as Glenn had cheerleaders" was to .iy the least the most disapppinting show* of the Falcons in this y< ung season. The game was quite a different contrast from half to half. Early in the game the Falcons just couldn't buy a basket. The • rst half netted them only six field goats the entire hal’, f> ur >, It »ger Stull, despite the fact •he Falcons were getting more hots by far than in any game this year. Morgan Twp.. a high chool of ab<>ut 50 students, did display a fine ball player in their r, 2"” center. Chuck Hannon. He pencd the scoring with a jumper shortly after the tip. but Glenn t<»ok one of their few le ids nf the night at this point. Hugh Germ, whose fine offenive job Friday night was most , ncouraging. hit two free throws, •wo-thirds of his game total, to tie the score. Roger Stull's 14 fooler pushed the Falcons ahead, but Hann n came back with a pair of charity hots Stull then hit from the corner and Dale Lhust hit t ingle free throw for the host team. Kevin Hanni put a missed .hot back in Charlie Stafford, tarting in place of injured lairry Groves, hit one of two fi-ee throws for a 9-5 lead. Hannon tme back with first a basket tnd then a free th“ow only to have Tom McGee hit a single P-.int for Glenn. Four baskets in a row in a minute and 2* soaonds, three tip-ins, gave the Cherokees a sate 16-10 lead. scoring. However, this is where the most trouble came offensively for the Falcons. From here on out. it was simply a basket by Stull and two free throws each by McGee and Trost and by halftime the Cherokees hail moved to a more comfortable 28-21 lead again. The Falcons did take control of things in the latter part of the third period. Ron Shurte hit first for the Porter County five, but Craig DeMyer finally put in his first basket of the’ night Hannon scored again on a nice turn-around shot, but DeMyer again plugged the gap with a middle distance jumper. After another basket by Shurte opened the lead to nine points again, the Falcons started to make their move. Geren hit a free throw and Hanni tossed one in from the corner. A free shot by Biust broke the streak before DeMyer and McGee hit back-to-back. Hannon was next for the Cherokees with a short baseline shot, but Stull and DeMyer hit in succession to trim the lead to one, 37-36. Hannon and Ben Cernatuskas hit lay-ins as the Falcon zone press wasn't getting the job (h«ne against the Morgan Twp. five. DeMyer's fifth basket of the quarter and a free th~ow by Stull made it 41-39 at the end of the quarter, Morgan Twp. leading. Rick Wittmer hit first to open the final period for Morgan Twp. Hanni scored again from the corner, but a lay-in by Shurte which he was fouled turned into three points for the Cherokees. Cernuuskas hit from the corner and Hannon added two from the 15 foot stripe for a 50-11 lead with 5:22 left on the alock. Stull and DeMyer hit from outside the circle but thin is where the defense lagged with the zone press. Shurte got a layin as the Morgan Twp. crew was very successful in getting the bill to the open men against the zone press and these lay-Ins weren't even contested. McGee hit a pair of charity shots for Glenn, but Cernaskas bagged another lay-in. Stull's basket cut the lead to eight points and after .single free throws were hit by Hannon and Biust, DeMyer hit a lung and two free throws. Hanni added one from the foul line but Hannon matched this as time was running out. De Myer tossed in another with :29 showing on the clock to cut the lead to four, but once again it was the cripple lay-in tor the Chemkees by Wittour to ice up the game. DeMyer's final bosket just made the margin 62-58 in the game. Hannon lilt* 25 Haonun paced uil scorers In this game with 25 points on eight baskets and mne of 11 from the foul Une Cernauskas hid 13 and Shurte 12 for the other winners in double figures. D<Mye- had 20 second hal points to pace the Falcons. Stull added 16. but with the exception of Stull. shooting percentages were very pour. The t< tm as a whole had only 21 of <7 at-
tempts, while the Porter County five hit 23 of 50 attempts from the floor. B Team Loses Fourth The B Team again was beaten also, this time by a 46-40 margin, In losing, Billy Curtis suffered a shoulder seperation and will be out hr the season.
