Duvis has announced. ' 1 a ^6* f'a > ' * 1 Those named Commanded students are Dennis Richard Clark, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard T Clark, 66735, State Road 23. ( North Liberty. He is among 39.000 students in the United States who scored in the upper 2 per cent of those who will graduate from high school in 1969. The Commend'd students rank just below the 15.000 Semifin. lists announced in , September by the National Merit , Scholarship Corporation ,NM I SCI. John M. Stalnaker, president of NMSC, said: "Although Commended students advance no further in the Merit Scholarship competition, therr outstanding record in a nationwide program deserves public recognition Their significant academic attainment gives promise of continued success in college. ‘The Commended students should be encouraged to pursue their education since their intellectual talent represents an imporant and much needed natural resource. Our nation will benefit from their continuing educational development." The Commended students’ names are reported to other scholarship - granting agencies end to the colleges they named as their first and second choices when they took the NMSQT in February 1968. The reports include home addresses. test scores, and anticipated college majors and career intentions o* the Commended students. Fire Prevention Week To Be Observed Students in the North Liberty Elementary School are again participating in th- observance of the National Fire Prevention Week. October 6-12. The students in grades kindergarten through four are making posters dealing with the problems of fire and fire prevention. Students in the fifth through the eighth grade ar- working on essays as their part of the week’s activity. The North Liberty Fire Department will come to school also, to conduct a drill as they haw in pist years. The students express their thanks to Chief John Gouker and his Fire Department for the treat they gave each student when the Firv Department made its visit to the school. FORMER PASTOR TO SHOW SLIDES OF RECENT TRIP Rev. Theodore Miller, a former pastor of the North Liberty Church of the Brethren will show slides, and lecture on his recent trip to Africa and the Holy Land. Sunday evening at 7:00 pm.
