Formerly a facultv member in several west cr-is^ colleges, he is known throughout Michiana for his appearanci s as director of Bethel's concert choir. Mrs. Tweed, who appeared In a concert here last spring at the Community May Tew. is a graduate of Lewis and Clark College Portland. O:vgon, where she majored in voice. She took graduate studies at the University of Southern California, where she sang leading roles in Beethoven's "Fidelio" and Ve-di’s "Falstaff.” She has performed with Elkhart Symphony Orchestra and the West End Opera Company of Ontario, California, as well as with Fading cho-al organizations in Handel’s "Messiah,” Mendelssohn's "Elijah, ’ and Haydn s "Crcution." Walkerton, died at 3:10 p.m. Friday, Septembi-r 27, at the age of 78 after a fw months illness in the Anderson Nursing Home, LaPorte. He was born on July 30. 1890 in Illinois. He had lived at Koontz Lake for the past 12 years coming from Chicago, Illinois. He was a motorman for the Chicago Transist Co. Hi* wife Lillian preceeded him in death on Dec. 11, 1967. Funeral services were held on October 1 in the Kelly and Caroll Funeral Home, 9315 S. Ashland Ave., Chicago and burial was in Oak Wood Cemetery. Chicago.
