A gala time is planned for the Walkerton Fourth of July celebration on Thursday with some events carrying through Saturday afternoon and evening. All • through this week the Drago Shows are in operation in the park for the enjoyment of young and old alike. The highlight of the day’s activities will be the Captain Stubby and the Buccaneers show on Thursday evening in the park. This very versitle group, well known all over the country, will perform at 7:00 p<m. for everyone’s enjoyment. The entertainment provided by this fine group will satisfy the tastes of everyone. The day’s activities will begin at 12:30 p.m. with the start of the games for the young with a couple of events taking in the older set as well. Tom Gourley Will have charge of the Kiddie games and contests with cash prizes waiting for all the winners. This will take place in the middle of the park and all are welcome to enter. The schedule of events will be similar to previous years with a few variation made each year to include as many people aa possible. At 2:30, an Interesting baseball game will be played as the Walkerton Little League will hold their annual All-Star gamt. This will feature players selected for this game by the coaches. erton Little League program this year. Activity will continue throughout the rest of the afternoon and early evening around the midway and the Captain Stubby Show will be the next featured event. Following the completion of the featured show, the Dixie Walkers will be the next featured event. Following the completion of the featured show, the Dixie Walkers Square Dancers will put on another of their fine and very attractive displays of dancing. This also will be in the park. The Walkerton American Legion Post will retire the colors at sundown and after darkness has fallen, the grand display of fireworks will again complete the activities of the day. A very special climax is planned this year with 48 rocket salute climaxing the display that will be handled by the Walkerton Volunteer Fire Department. Sky Divers Hew Saturday Def inate arrangements have been made for the sky diving exhibition to be held on Saturday. With the carnival still in town, the park will still be the center of activity. Members of a sky diving club from Illinois will jump into Place Park on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. They will jump from 12.000 feet to the park. This is an added event under the planning of the Fourth of July committee. The program in Walkerton is

Sharon is employed at Ford Motor Sales in Walkerton and Jack is employed at Weathermate in Walkerton. No date has been set for the wedding. Sunday, July 7 Lakeville Grange Picnic sponsored by the Walkerton Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion Post 189 and the Walkerton Lions Chib. This year the controlling committee from these three organizations include Richard Verkier, Jack Tiede and Glen Jacob. These three clubs will again handle the refreshment stand in the park from noon until midnight on the Fourth. They will feature hamburgers, hot dogs, cold drinks, coffee and candy. This allows everyone to have plenty to eat and not miss any of the activities during the course of the day.

Festivities began Sunday. June 30th at 1:30 p.m. with the North Liberty Fire Department’s annual invitational waterball tournament. A special added attraction will launch the scheduled activities for the 4th. The Pontiac Model Airplane Association from Pontiac, Michigan will c< nduct a radio remote control model airplane show on North Liberty High School’s football field from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The air show consists of remote controlled stunt flying, takeoffs, landings, etc. This new attraction should prove very interesting and entertaining. Plenty of bleacher seats will be available for spectators. Admission is free. The annual Fourth of July Parade featuring bands, floats (commercial and fraternal), clowns, horses, marching units, etc., will begin at 2:00 p.m. Parade chairman, John Peddycord, and Parade Marshall, Rev. Curtis Benson, are requesting that participants in the parade assemble at 1:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post 365 Home on Indiana 23, South. The parade will proceed northward on Indiana 23 pass the Judges’ Stand at the Community Building, turn west on Mill Street turn south at ’ the town park onto Jeferson St., at Indiana 4 going west again for 1 block, turning south on Maple Street eventually returning to the point of origin. Trophies, plaques and ribbons will be awarded to the winners in each catagory immediately following the parade at the town park. There the celebration will continue with planned activities including a grease pole climb (2 and 5 dollar prizes), bozo tank, duck pond, pony rides, egg throwing contest, sack racing, concessions, etc. The games will begin about 4:30 p.m. The North Liberty Merchants

The Chamber and Lions are still both in need of helpers at this stand. Jake Powill is lining up the help for the Chamber who will serve in two hour shifts from noon until 6:00 p.m. The Lions are splitting the work in two three hour shifts and are seeking help on both of these shifts. Harry Mechling is in charge of lining up these workers. Any adults, members of these organizations or not, can assist in this if they so desire simply by contacting either of these two men. Members of the organizations that haven’t been contacted are urged to do so at once to keep the stand well supplied with help. It will be greatly appreciated. I, I’. EXTENSION LISTS DEAN'S LIST A total of 163 students qualified for the Dean’s List at the Indiana U. South Bend-Mish-waka Campus this past spring semester. In order to qualify, a student must have taken at least 12 credit hours and achieved an average of 3.3 or better on a scale where a 4.0 average equals straight A grades.
