She was our insulation against childish i of fear and anxieties. As time goes on, many mothers ) different words; strange words of impatience, irritation, asperation - yes, even rebellion. They hear, “Oh, mother, just don't understand.” In later years, if we will only ac it. we know many mothers did understand things that y beyond our understanding in former years. But, there some things a mother should not be expected to understand any time. How can she understand why days and weeks go by v no word from those she likes to hear from? How can understand why she is expected to be insensitive to indit ence or neglect? How can she understand why expe, phone calls don't come through? How can she underst why (unwritten) letters don't arrive? Incidentally, has a one ever heard a mother tell a postman. “I don't want mail today” . ..? Yet, on Mother's Day, in spite of our thoughtlessness other days, she understands. But, wouldn't it be pleasant , her on other days, if demands for her understanding wouk ( less on other days? . . .
