Community Club Country Store Has Big Day The Country Store featured at the Walkerton’s Woman s Community Club on Friday. April 19, had a big day. Thirty four members and guests enjoyed a gala sh< pping spree, buying homemade cookies, cakes, candies, jams, jellies, jewelry, aprons and many other items. A sign indicating “Orders Taken Here For Coal." and a coal scuttle on display brought smiles to the faces of the ladies but no “takers.” A sack lunch at 15c, was the brain child of the hostesses Mesdames Ralph LcFeber, George Ferverda, Arthur Wilkerson, and Lloyd Thomas. It proved to be a real bargain: it contained a sandwich, cup cake and unshelled nuts. After purchasing a luncheon sack the members preceded t > the dining room where they found Kraft paper mats at each place. The tables were decorated with old fashioned flowers in old fashioned vases, kerosene lamps and flat irons. Storekeeper Caroline Newell and her assistants Mesdames Paul Bodeman. George Hillis and H.A. Hergenrother reported the days receipts over SIOO.OO. sented to the patients of the Teegarden Nursing Home. That as of this date over three hundred items of clothing have been donated. As a result of these gifts the manager of the Home stated that two patients were able to attend church for the first time in several years. 1 he Roll Call "My Memories of the Old Country Store" brought forth many interesting comments. One member related that a ston in Grovertown boasted an elvator which was operated with ropes, another remembered the open bins and said "this was m days of no germs." It was announced that the May Fellowship Tea was to be held at the United Missionary Church of Koontz Lake on May 3. Members were asked to meet at the Koontz Dike Conservation Club at 12:15 for a short meeting prior to the Tea. Plans for the Style Show and Luncheon to be held at Holiday Inn. Plymouth are under way. Reservations for the luncheon must be made and paid for n later than May 13; Mrs. George Hillis is in charge. The Club closed with a special prayer for Mrs. Clarabelle Rogers, a long time member who recently passed away. North Liberty School Names Snelling Chamns The North Liberty School spelling contests were held on Fridav, April 19 in the school cafeteria. The 7th & Bth grade champion Beth Donathen won the title by spelling correctly the word, "doubtful," after the runner-up. Diane Cisney had spelled “quarratine” incorrectly. Rainbow News A meting of Walkerton Rain- I bow Assembly was held Monday I evening. Our sidelines wore, Mrs. John McCombs, Mrs. Myron Mullet. Mrs. Mildred Dutcher. Mrs. I Louis Daube, Al Drews and I Sharon Knowlton. Past Worthy Advisor. Mrs. Gary Clark pn - temmed for Mom Drews. For I business we discussed the inspec- j tion which will be on May 1, at 7:00 p.m. We balloted on Katherine Lidy. She will be initiated ' at inspection on May 1. Miss I Daube.
