Bishop John Wesley Shungu a leader of some 57,000 members of the Methodist Church in the Republic on Congo will be the speaker. Bishop Shungu is one of two African bishops of the Methodist Church. Elected in 1964 to succeed Bishop Newell S. Booth as Episcopal leader of the Congo. Bishop Shungu supervises all Methodist work in the Congo, which includes churches, schools, hospitals, and extensives agricultural projects. Bishop Shungu himself barely escaped death at the hands of rebel troops last November when he returned to the mission center at Lodja to rescue his wife and eight of his 13 children.
