Arthur E. Shirley, Postmaster at Walkerton, Indiana, announced he will retire April 30, 1968. Mr. Shirley was appointed acting Postmaster September 30. 1944. and received his commission for the permanent appointment October 19. 1945. During his tenure. City Delivery Service was started August 16. 1952 and the new Post Office building at Van Buren and Illinois Streets was completed in January 1960 and dedicated April 16. 1961. Robert L Lloyd was charged with speeding and is to appear at a later date. Two hub caps were taken from a car at the school parking lot on April 4th. The car belonging to Roy Baugher. Bill Baker's Standard Service was robbed of $34.50 while the station was opened on the evening of April sth. Sunday, April 7. there was an unknown amount of change from a cigarette machine taken from Plas Steel old building also cigarettes and pop but the cigarettes and pop were found. NOT! Dr. Pannabecker To Speak On Good Friday Dr. Ray P. Pannabecker, president of Bethel College in Mishawaka. will be the guest minister for Walkerton’s Community Good Friday service. The one-hour service will begin at 1 p.m. (CSTi and will be held in the United Methodist Church, Illinois Street Building. Dr. Pannabecker was graduated from Elkhart High School and received his A.B degree, with psychology and philosophy majors. from Asbury College. He has done post-graduate work at Goshen Bibhertl Seminary and Michigan State University and was the recipient of an honorary doctorate from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1964. An ordained minister of the United Missionary Church, he served as pastor in churches in Michigan and Indiana for 19 years and as a district superintendent for four years. For nine years, he was editor of the "Gospel Banner", the official organ of the United Missionary Church. He is now completing his ninth year as president of Bethel College. Dr. Pannabec ker is a member of the board of directors of the Council for the Advancement of Small College- a membvi of the board of directors of the South Bend Symphom* Choir as well a holding member -hip in a number of other civic -ervi t. and church organizati ns. Annual Easter Egg In Walkerton On Sunday Sunday afternoon in Place Park starting at 2:00 pin., the Walkerton Volunteer Fire Department will hold an easter egg hunt for children to 12 years old with many prize eggs to b< found. Their will be categories 427 Roosevelt Road, Walkerton of the various eges and prize eggs from suc to $2.50, plus plenty of candy eggs for all. Fire Department Kept Busy The Walkerton Fire Depart - I ment was called out twice in recent days to fight grass and field fires. On Saturday, at 11:55 [ a.m., an alarm was sounded to fight a grass fire on the Harold Bell properly, route 1, Walkerton. I Monday afternoon al 4:15 p.m., t another alarm dealt with a country fire as a corn field was i a blase in the very gusty winds. This was located east of Sycal more Road, a mile and a half I south of U. 8. 6. , The department was called on Tuesday evening to handle several grass and brush fires along the ; Nickle Plate Railroad west of i Walkerton as a passing train left a string of fires behind. NORTH LIBERTY PTA TO MEET TUESDAY The North Liberty PTA will hold it's April meeting. Tuesday, April the 16th at 7:30 p.m. in the High School Cafeteria. Sgt. Tim McCarty will be the speaker. 3-Car Accident Injures Local People Saturday A 3 car accident on Saturdai injured Mrs. Nancy Naragon, if 2 Walkerton. Brenda Beron <* North Liberty and six other persons were injured on U.S. 31 at Ind. 4. Brt nda is the daughter of Mr - , and Mrs. John Beron, 106 Maple Street, North Liberty. Nancy Naragon -and Brenda are still in Memorial hospital. Ninty was admitted with a fracture-, pelvis and her c> nditi<-n was listed as satisfactory. । Also admitted was Brenda, 7, with a fractured pelvis and a fractured leg and the hospital officials said she was in satisfactory condition. Mrs. Naragon s daughter. Barbara, 15, who suffered a severe cut in her right leg was treated an 1 rc leased. Also treated and released were two other daughters of NL*. Naragon, Donna, 17, who suffered a bump on her head, and i Cynthia, 11, a cut left knee. All were in the same car, operate by Mrs. Naragon, who was thrown from the vehicle by the force of impact. Also treated and released was G. Taylor Davis. 56, of 2628 E. Jefferson Blvd., who suffered scrapes on both knees and a bruised chest. Indiana State Police Troopers David Lattimer and Julian Keiser said they were continuing their investigation of the accident. The troopers said Mrs. Naragon had been east bound on Ind 4 and had stopped at U.S. 31 prior to pulling out, apparently under the impression that Davis, who was southbound, was planning to turn onto Ind. 4. Th»Naragon vehicle was struck broadside and spun into the northbound lane where it was hit by a car operated by Miss Mary K. Bining. 20, of Etna Green, Ind. No tickets were issued. Mrs. Naragon's husband wa killed when an auto drivi n by Dale Lake, 23 of Laporte, crashed into the rear of the farm tractor Naragon was driving on Ind. 23. south of Walkerton. Walkerton Alumni Select June Bih For Meeting Date Kevin Huffstetter, president of the Walkerton High School Alumni Association for this year, has announced the date for the annual meeting as Saturday, June 8. A big event is planned as the tentative arrangements are bemg made as thia will coincide with the coming Walkerton Sumer Fstival, which is expected tn draw a large crowd to Welkerton. Further details and committees will be announced as they progress. Hanni, as superintendent of schools. He will assume his new positi n July 1, 1968. Mr. Hanni. presently a n searck assistant for Ball State University, will succeed Dr. Max E. Hobbs who will bi-come sup Tintendent at Rensselaer, Indiana. A graduate of Geneva High School, Geneva. Indiana. Mr. Hanni served in the armed fours and was in the retail business through 1958.
