SERVICE NOTES (D076.W VIETNAM •FHTNC. March 11 H -spitalman Russell E. Norman of Rte. 1. Walkerton. Ind., has reported for duty with the Ninth Engineer Battalion, of the First Marine Division in Viet Nam. Engineers construct and improve road networks, ammunition and fuel dumps, temporary tactical support airfields and temporary camps. They also operate and maintain water points producing thousands of gallons of potable water daily. In support of infantry units, they detect and clear mine fields, destroy caves and tunnels and other enemy fortifications.

A fanner, he was born Aug, 1, 1887 near M< rley, Mich., and had lived at Walkerton since his childhood. Mr. Schroeder was married Aug. 25. 1917 at Paw Paw. Mich., to Ruby Hamilton, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Edna August. Jackson. Mich.; Mrs. Evelyn Wolfe South Bend: Mrs. Ruth Thibixieaux, Walkerton: five grandchildren: one greatgrandchild: and one sister. Mrs. Emma Griffin. Mendon. Mich. Services were conducted at 2 p.m. CST, Wednesday with Rev. Charles Kramer, pastor of the Tyner Evangelical United Brethren church. officiating. Burial was in Highland Cemetery. South Bend. Haag CHARITY CIRCLE MET The Charity Circle of the t’nitrd Methodist Church met in the home of Mrs. Robert Fenstermacher with 10 members and 3 guests present on March 14. Mrs. James Payton joined our Circle at this meeting. Devotions were given by Mrs. Gale Sherland. The lesson and discussion was led by Mrs. Ray Chapman on “What is our purpose in life as Christians." She closed with a prayer. The next meeting will be on April 11 at the home of Mrs. Robert Barden 9:30 a.m. FELLOWSHIP CIRCLE Mrs. Helen Mitchell was hostess at the Illinois Street Building of the Walkerton United Methodist Church. Tuesday afternoon. Manh 12, for the Fellowship Circle. President. Mrs. Albert Huhnke Jr. < pened the meeting with all present repeating the Lord's Prayer. A discussion concerning the circle making packages for boys in Viet Nam was held during the business meeting. Mrs. Huhnke presented the ‘esson taken from the Book of Luke.
FABRIC AND FASHIONS STYLE SHOW APRIL 1 Fabric and Fashions will be on parade Monday. April 1 at the John Glenn High School. Fabric is from MGM Fabric Shop at LaPorte and the Fashions are by local women sewing spring outfits for themselves and families. The style show is sponsored by the Better Homes Extension Club. Tickets are available from any club member or Mrs. Branson Hiatt ticket chairman for 75c. No charge for children . Ticket® will also be sold at the door. The program begins at 7:00 p.m. CST. There will be refreshments and door prizes. All proceeds are used for 4-H and Youth benefits. The regular meeting of Better Homes will be Monday night 7:30 pm. at the Walkerton Community Club. Guest speaker will be Mrs. Esther Singer County Extension Agent who will give a lesson on the "History of Furniture." Hostesses for the evening will be Mrs. Clyde Bick and Mrs. Howard ClingenpeeL Purdue University entension agronomists recommend these soybean varieties for planting in Indiana this spring: Chippewa 64, Lindarin 63.
