Legion Post 189 To Celebrate Birthday March 30 The American Legion Birthday Party will he h- Id . n March 30 in the Post home at 6:30 p.m.and we will eat at 7:00 pm. sharp. All Legion and Auxiliary members attending are ask to bring a covered dish and table service so as everyone may enjoy the program. We are asking all who bring covered dishes to make them a little larger than usual as we will aso have guests. As usual the Auxiliary has a fine program planned. Guest I speaker will be Joseph P. Donovan, 49, of Warsaw is the 49th Department Commander of the Indiana American Legion, having been elected at the closing session of the 1967 convention in Indianapolis. Bom In Cleveland, Ohio, he moved with his parents at an early age to a farm in Harrison and Floyd Counties and is a graduate of the Lanesville High School in Harrison County. Since World War II he has been a resident of Warsaw where he operates his own contracting firm. He served as a member of the Warsaw City for four years,

1956-60. A World War II veteran, he served in 1949 as Commander of the John C. Peterson Post of the American Legion in Warsaw. In 1961-62 he was Commander of the American Legions Second District and in 1963-64 served as Northern Vice Commander of the Indiana Department. For 9 years he served as chairman of the Indiana American Legion’s Boy State Enrollment Committee. A member of the Elks, Moose and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Donovan and his wife Alice are active in many other community affairs in Warsaw. Commander Donovan is the

third member of Post 49 to be elected Department Commander of The American Legion. The other two former commanders of that Post are Homer M< Daniels and the late Gilbert Bates. Walkerton Lions To Entertain JGHS Athletes The Walkerton Lions Club will have as their special guests on Tuesdy night, the athletes of the Glenn High School. The annual program will have several highlights during the evening. Dave Martin, a linebacker on Notre Dame s football team, will be the speaker for the evening, bringing a message to the boys and adults as well that is promising to be very interesteing. Another highlight of the night will be the Club’s presentation of their annual award to a senior boy choeen on his merits as an athlete, student and individual. This is always an exciting presentation, giving the recipient one of the thrills of his career. The selection is made from several diferent categories concerning the boy both on and off the field of play. both on and off the field of play. This year, as is usually the case, male friends and fathers of the athletes ar ecordially invited to attend. Each man present will sponsor a boy by paying for one s dinner aa well as his own. Each adult attending will be charged $3.50 for this meeting. Anyone outside the Walkerton Lions Club should make their reservations with the secretary. Bob L’rbin, no later than Sunday night. All club members will be contacted by their calling committee member. The dinner wil be held at the American Legion Hall with dinner beginning at 630 (’ST. time.
