many years basketball was "It" in sports to Hoosier lads. Now. with the school consideration program eliminating the number of schools in the state, a much more varied athletic program is coming to (-very school. but still that period from November 1 to about the third Saturday in March, basketball is still king. INDIANA HAS LONG BEEN known for its basKcinail and the boys from th-' high school- all over the stat-' have certainly maintained their own all over the country. All-American^ have popped up from the Atlantic to the Pacific and n »’ just from the large school' of Indiana but every place that his enoun-h room L> put up two b ickb--ards. has contributed to the program. BASKETBALL GETS THE official nod to start practice - n October 1. Most c ach-s take

Maybe a local boy who used to d< hver your p «pm or earns your grocerie at the neighborhood store will emerge as the big star this year. It might be a returning name that will continue to set the pace and move to the t< p like cream in a can of milk. It might be your sun or nephew, boyfriend of your daughter, or just the kid next d-s-r who used to be just a little to mischievous to settle down to anything like basketball. BASKETBALL IS KING AND treats those who play royally. It is a raie d.-y, but always the one that gels the publicity, when an athlete gets into trouble.
