r. □-— - — DEATHS □— - □ Frank Miriek Frank Muiek, SO, Grovertown, died at 10 55 p m.. Thursday at Starke Memorial Hospital Kn »x. He has been m failing health for 18 months. Mr. Miciek was born Oct. 4. 1887 in Poland and came to the Grovertown area 20 years ago from Chicago. He was married Oct. IN 1914 at Chicago to Hei- < n Susko. who preceded him in death m April of 1963. He was a member of St. Patri< k s Catholic church at Walkerton and was a member of the Polish National Alliance at Chicago. Surviving are one son. Alfred Miciek. Dalton. 111., one daughter. Mrs. Louise Wieczork, R. R. 1. Grovertown; and six grandchildren. Services were held at 10 a.m. iCSTi. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic church. Walkerton, with Rev. Anthony Dtko. pastor officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery. Rosary was recited at 8 pm., Sunday in Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet. Steven Zahair Steven Zahari. 75, of Rt. 2. North Liberty, died at 1:05 am. Mon. in the E. St. Division Hospital. LaPorte, after a sevenyear illness. A retired firebrick maker in East Chicago, Ind., he was born May 3, 1892, in Hun-
gary and had lived in North Liberty 37 years, moving there from South Bend. On Oct. 20. 1951, in Whiting, Ind., he married the former Sara Meszaros, who survives. Others survivors include a son, Frank Fargo, of North Liberty; two daughters, Mrs. Ralph Livings >d of North Liberty and Mrs. David Burket of Walkerton, and two grandchildren. Funeral services were at 10 am. <>n Wednesday in the Palmer Funeral Home, North Liberty. with Rev. Thomas Frost, pastor of North Liberty Methodist Church officiated. Burial was in Sumption Prairie Cemetery. Miss Beatrice Steele Miss Beatrice Steele, 84. of 107 S. Lifayette St.. North Liberty, died at 3 p.m. Sunday in her home after a two-year illness. A retired school teacher, she was principal of North Liberty High School in the 1920‘5. She was born on .July 24. 1883, in Liberty Twp. and had been a lifetime area resident. Miss Steele received a bachelor's degree at Indiana University, Bloomington, and master's degrees from the University of Chicago and the I’niversity of Illinois. Champaign. She is survived by five nieces. Mrs. Marv Hartman of North Liberty. Mrs. Jane Bonders of White Bear Dake, Minn., Mrs. Charlotte Mikel and Mrs Mil Ired Behrenbruch, both of South Bend, and Mrs. Francis Grandorff of Osceola; two nephews. Max Steele of North Liberty and Robert Steele of Mishawaka: and 14 grandnieces and nephews. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Palmer Funeral Home. North Liberty. Rev. University Women To Meet In I^iPorte The LaPorte branch of the American Association of University Women will hold its second meeting of the year on Tuesday, November 14. 8:00 p.m. in the Rosary Room of St. Peter's Catholic School. A panel of men having to do with the new hospital in LaPorte will present the program. They will first present a statement of why DiPorte needs a new hospital and then show a filmship entith'd "We Are Going to Build a Hospital.” This will be the first time the filmstrip has been shown to the public. A question and answer period will follow the film. Trip Reservations Money Due The Nov. 30th Chicago bus trip sponmcd by the Better Homes Demonstration club has been received with a large response. As in past years, it will be the positive reservations taken in a first come first serve basis according to chairman of the trip Mrs. Harry Malstaff. The money is to be turned in as soon as possible. Plans were made at a recent meeting of the club held at the Community Building. The group purchased a patron ticket for the DaPorte Hospital benefit. The women made Christmas t ree ornaments from egg cartons with Mrs. Malstaff in charge. WALKERTON WSCS VISITS SB GROUP Seventeen members of the WSCS of Walkerton United Methodist Church attended as guests a meeting at the South Bend Immanuel Church Women's Society, last Thursday evening. The speaker, Mrs. Gibson from the Employment Agency, revealcd the ability each has to do a job. She will visit schools and organizations in the County telling the way to find a job.
TOPS Club Is Formed In Walkerton The recently organized Walk> erton Tops Club met Wednesday morning at the home of Mrs. Jack Kinney. The object of the club is to band together to take off pounds sensibly and to encourage each other. The high weekly winner wa« Mrs. Herbert Gaddis and second winner was Mrs. Kinney. Next week the group will begin working toward the Thanksgiving basket prize. Total lbs. lost this week by all members were 22. One member has lost a total of 24 lbs. Anyone interested in joining may call 586-2118 or 586-2639. NL Boy Scout Committee Elects New Officers On Thursday evening, Nov. 2, the committee met in the home of Richard Dill. Plans were discuss<*d on reorganization of Boy Scout troop 241. Plans were made to interest more boys in scouting. The following officers were elect I'd. Institutional Representative, Roy Clark; chairman, John Ransberger; treas, Richard Peterson; sec. A- publicity. Virgil Myers; property man. Jim Zerby; advancement. Don Lunsford; outdoor man, Harold Hanson; scoutmaster. Richard Dill and assistant scoutmasters, Russell Ogle and Edward Trapp Refreshments were served by Mrs. Dill. The next meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the Methodist church m North Liberty at 7 00 p.m. Aroused in the early morning by the din of garbage collectors at work, the lady of the house remembered she had forgotten to put out the garbage the night before.
