Independent-News Co. Purchases The Culver Cifizen The Culver Citizen, a weekly newspaper that was established July 13, 1894, and devoted to serving the Culver area, has undergone a change of managenient. Effective with this issue, "The Citizen" is now published by the Independent-News Co., Inc., of Walkerton. In liana. o - I \F i o Robert E. LT bin. president of the Independent-News Co., is now the e itor handling the mechanical end of the publication from the Walkerton plant. At the present, very little change will be made in the neWspap r p dh y. as the paper will continue to be printed on Wednesday for Thursday delivery. For the next few weeks, the Culver Citizen will continue to be handled from the present office, at Washington and Lake Streets, but in the very near future, the office will be located in th* former Shoe Ship at 105 S uth Main Street, between Gordon's Texaco Service and the Culver City Drug Store. Until forn d nnnouno ment, all bu -mess sh< uld be continued at the present location. Mrs. Roland Mackey and Mrs. Gkn Osborn will operate the Culver office, assisted by Mr. and Mrs. Urbin and Robert Powers, another member of the present Independent-News Co. staff. The change of ownership of the newspaper is the result of an expansion move by the former publishers. The Culver Press, Inc. They have expanded under a merger of two companies and the new corporation. The Indiana Pri sa, Inc., will soon be located in a new building in Plymouth, where the Indiana Business and Industry publication will continue as Well as a large commercial printing plant. The monthly magazine has become a Well-known and growing adequate time on weekly publication of the Citizen. also assists in the publication of the newspaper. Mr. Urbin was born in Kewanna, Ind., moving to Walkerton while still in elementary school in 1941, but is no stranger to the area. Included with the publication of the two newspapers the plant also does commercial work, both letterpress and offset, giving them a very complete operation. All services will be available through the Culver office. Name Halloween Costume Winners A parade of costumed youngsters was headed by the John Glenn High School band Tuesday night. They marched to the Elementary school where volunteers from each of the civic organizations conducted the activities and served each of those present milk, candy and an apple. The Chamber of Commerce headed the program with William Zimmerman as co-ordinator. Cash awards of SI.OO, 50c. and 25c was given for first, second and third place winners. Students To ■ Attend Matinee * Series Monday Students from nine Marsh.ill County school systems will attend the first in a series of free matimes Monday, Nov. 13, at Culver Military Academy. Over 1.500 High school students will hear the Randy Weston Jazz Sextet in a 1 p.m. performance. and Academy stu tents, faculty and area residents will attend another presentation at 8:15 p.m. The series, starting its seventh year, is financed by the EM. Morris Foundation. Inc., of South Bend with partial assistance from The Culver Educational Foundation in the Program of Education in the Performing Arts.
