t< wn f. r losses on plays, something that f. w times have done this season. The Falcons received an cxc.pti n.l job from senior John Stask «, playing his final football gam. for John Ginn. His pass receptions and running after the catches bit VIX little to be desired. The threat he pose! even f.und double and triple teaming on him. but with little success. Craig D Mx> r. who has developed into a fine passer this season, put th< ball in the air 48 times on this cold night and on several oca a-ions he hit his receivers onlx to have the ball go through a pan- of cold hands as the weather did hav. something to be desired. The temperature dipped into the low thirties for this battle. Jimtown kicked off to Glonn and immediately D< Myer hit two passes, giving the Falcons n first down on their own 33. On the first play, Steve Magyar stepped in front of an intended receiver, intercepted a pass and had clear sailing for a touchdown This came with onlx 1:33 gone in the game. Jack Fearnow. the all time leading scorer of Northern Indiana high school football, kicked the point after and the score was quickiv 7-0. Jimtown again intercepted a pass the next time the Falcons had the ball, but the good defense held and they punted into the end gone. On this set of plays, a fumble on a pass attempt gave the Jimmies the ball once again as Magyar recovered on the Falcon 18 yard line. However, a jarring tackle resulted in a Jimtown fumble and Larry Graves recovered to stop this threat. Very late in the first quarter, Fearnow tore loose on a first and 10 from his own 37 and looked to be in the open. However, Jack Casteel and Gary Trost had an angle on him and knocked him out of bounds after a 42 yard run. Sonny Williams and Fearnow then took turns running the ball until Fearnow fancy stepped his way the last six yards for the score. This came with 10:16 remaining in the half. Again the kick was true

and the score was 14-0. After a couple of punts, the Falcons had the ball deep in their own territory and with two penalties helping to set them back. DeMyer was creamed in the end zone for a safety as Steve Mt Cuddy biok- through what was basit Mix a good pass bl w king line in this game, to make the tackle. Fell, wing the free kick, Jimtown again ha 1 great field position Thex moved from the Falcon 34 in for the score with Fearnow getting loose for a 24 yard TD sprint. This tune he missed the point and the score was 22-0 and remained that way until the final quarter. The secon 1 half f<>un 1 the Falcons particularly strong as they dominated the game in this half. The Falcons st< pped the Jimmies every time they got the ball an 1 begin t > unload an offense of their own with D<Mvcr passing well to several different receivers. I-de in the third period, a drive started on the Falcon 43 and immediatelv a pass interference penalty was called on an over anxious Jimtown defensive back From here DeMyer hit Stasko for 12. Steve Buswell for 5. Stasko again for 7 on a crucial third down play. After a few incompletions. DeMyer again teanu-d with Stasko for a 12 yarder on a fourth and 11 situation, giving the Falcons first and goal from the 6. DeMyer followed a wedge for two on the first play, but the second down pass was incomplete. A third down toss to Stasko right over the mi Idle left the Falcons one yard short and on the fourth down try, Gary Trost bulled over behind the middle and left side of the line for the Falcons TD. A pass attempt for the pisnt after was no good, but the scare read 22-6 with 11.31 left in the game. Jimt<>wn receive I another break about halfway through the quarter when they punted to Glenn only to have a wind-carried punt go over the head of the deep man and the ball was downed on the Falcons one yard line. From here, a pass to Stasko for nin- and Steve Ludwig’s plunge gave the Falcons a first down. Stasko then made an outstanding catch on the sidelines, evaded two tacklers and moved for 20 yards getting the ball out of trouble. However, after an incomplete pass. DeMyer rolled right and threw short into the wind an I th*- ever-present Fearnow st< pped in front of Groves, took the ball and raced down the sidelines unmolested. He added the point after and the score was 29-6, which remainei the rest <»f tin game. goal with time running out in the half. LaVille had used up ail their time outs and were forced to hurriedly put the plays in motion. On the first play. Heckaman gained two. A run by Schlemmer picked up nothing and on third down. Heckaman again gained two. With a fourth and one and the clock ticking off the* seconds, a quick lineup and run by Heckaman resulted in the middle of the Shamrock line stopping him about a yard short a-s the time ran out. This gave the Shamrocks a 7-6 halftime margin. The second half really wasn’t much different fur a while. The field conditions made play extremely hard. The second time the Lancers got the ball, it was on their 42 yard line. A first down pass attempt found a 15 yard pass interference penalty being marched olf. On the next play, Shidler busted through the niildle. the spot just vacated by Hostetler who went to the sideline* for some equipment repair, movc*d to his left and ran all the way for a 43 yard touchdown gallop. Again the kick wns no good, being a low kirk that was blocked by the middle of the line, and the lead of La Ville was 12-7. Th Shamrocks lost twice before they got possession in the last period to start the drive that l<-d to the winning touchdown. Following the score that pushed the Shnmrcx ks ahead, it was once again the defense* who took charge-. Young kicked off into the end zone and LaVille started from their own 20 to move forward. Using a running attack, they gaine*d two first downs and had advanced to the- 45 yard line Summerfield intercepted a Vance : forward pass to stop this drive. Unable- to move the- ball, they j kicked again to LaVille, but they ; inturn couldn't advance the ball ; and the Shamrocks took over on ; the I^aVille 38 yard line. They '

missed getting a first down on a fourth down play and LaVille took possession on their owa 38 where they had time for two plays before the clock ran out, giving the Shamrocks the 13-12 win. A lot of credit has to be given to both teams for their play in this game. Playing in cold weather is on thing, but playing in cold weather when you are soaking wet is another and this its what all the boys went through in this game. On several occas« sions, players ended up tn the middle of one big standing puddle of water on the field and couldn't have been any wetter if they would have jumped into a lake. This win assured the Shamrocks of second place in the Northern State Conference behind the champion Jimtown Jimmies.
