Study” " its I ll® ALREADY DONE Wlwlm Walter J. Claeys, 8.A., B.D. ■ Pastor, First Baptist Church " North Liberty Phone 656-8344 ■ ■ I do the best I can, g I go to church. I have been baptized. I am a good neighbor. I am a church member. R I help the poor. H I don't drink, smoke .cheat, steal, kill, rob, ■ curse, or mistreat anyone. Si I give to the church. That is a list of some of the things people tell me they are — working at in order to get to heaven. B Yet Jesus said that the necessary work is already done! He did it! When He said "It is finished" He meant that all ■ the WORK that had to be done for men to become saved was _ thereby done — on His cross. " Yes, His death on our behalf was all that was necessary. ' He has already done all the work. He took all the punish- ■ nent for all our sins as He hung on the cross in our place. p So today it is not a matter of our doing good works. It is ■ a matter of our believeing that His Work on the cross was g good enough to save us and of our personally receiving Him, trusting what He has done to save us — eternally. ■ Then after we have trusted Him. He has promist'd that He * will change our lives. We will then want to do the things in ■ the above list —- as a result of our already being saved, not H as the work to become saved.
