State Sets Season For Rails, Snipe And Woodcock 1967 hunting seasons for rails, woodcock and common snipe have been set by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. The season for rails is September 1 through November 9, with a daily bag limit of 15 and possession limit of 30. Woodcock season is September 30 through December 3, with daily bag limit of 5 and possession limit of 10. Common (Wilson’s) snipe season is September 30 through November 18, with daily bag limit of 8 and possession limit of 16. Indiana hunting hours are onehalf hour before sunrise to sunset. The Secretary of Interior recently approved federal regulations which prescribe season lengths, limits, shooting hours and the “outside dates” within states may select the open season on rails, woodcock, common snipe, doves and a few other species of no concern to the states in the Mississippi Flyway. In establishing Indiana’s dates and limits, the Department of Natural Resources considered these limitations and selected a season when the species involved would be available to the hunter.
