Street and Roosevelt R »ad, paying tribute to Dr, Harold C. Urey. Dr, Urey, burn in Walkerton in 1893, is a famed scientist and former Nobel Peace Prize winner for his discovery of heavy hydrogen, or deuterium, as well as many other major contributions to science. The American Legion was responsible tor the monument. From left to right are: William Elaugher, commander of the Post: Mrs. Hairy Maistaff, chairman of the project; Walter Heil, president of the Walkerton Town Board; and Charles Wooley, Ist vicecommander of the Post 189. Adam Haag, retired pattern maker by trade donated his services to design and polish the marker. The bronze placque was poured locally and donated by the Charles O. Hiler and Sons Foundry. The Indiana Limestones was also donated by the Haas Stone Co. who delivered the nearly ton marker to its final site on Roosevelt Road. Past Legion Commander Richard Verkier negotiated for the stone while Carroll Zartman, contractor. contributed his labor to eract the stone in cement. Plas-SteeL Inc. Opens New Plan* In Dallas Area A new', modern warehousefactory complex, which will provide more than 100 new jobs in the Dallas area, located at Commerce, Texas, was announced here this week by Mr. Sam Shobert, president of Plas Steel Products, Inc., of Walkerton. Indiana. The new factory will add to Plas Steel’s present manufacturing facilities and will serve Southwestern part of the United States. The Commerce plant will manufacture Plas Steel’s world famous line of Glas Lite torque control Golf Clubs, the equally well known Glas Lite Fishing Rods as well as much of the company’s production of industrial fiberglass products and Components. The Glas Lite Golt Clubs are made with shafts of woven fiberglass, giving them toughness and extreme durability and providing greater distance and accuracy. The spectacular growth of Plas Steel has been credited to its patented process of weaving

Dr. Urey was born in Walkerton and lived here the first several years of his life befor going on to be one of America’s outstanding scientists. fiberglass into shafts and shapes which can be machined as easily as metal yet can withstand extremes of heat and cold and provide a high degree of electrical insulation. George Parks, General Manager of the Texas division, stated that the company is happy about locating in the Dallas area and feels that Plas/ Steel will make a definite contribution to economy of Dallas and of the City of Commerce in particular. The new plant has 20,000 square feet of manfacturing and office space. Further expansion is planned in the near future. TO PRESENT MUSICAL RECITAL The pupils of Mrs. Grace Atwood will present a piano, voice and organ musical on Sunday. July 30 at 3:30 p.m. in the United Methodist Church. Walkerton. Presbyterian Women To Open Thrift Shop The Mission Thrift Shop sponsored by the women of the First Presbyterian Church of Walkerton will open its doors Tuesday, August 1. The location is at 405 Michigan St., at the rear entrance of the Bedford Day Nursery. The hours are from 10 a.in. to 4:30 p.m. daily except Sunday. This project will be manned by the women of the church and the used or new clothing, household articles, furniture, knickknacks etc. will be on sale. Anyone wishing to contribute may call any member of the Church for pickup or where to deliver articles to any member of the church. The idea was prompted by the need for more cash for the building fund, for which all proceeds will be given. Mrs. Amos Hunt is general Chairman assisted by Mrs. John Crambert. Mrs. Ralph N. LaFeber is chairman of the work schedule. Every women in the church is hard at work in assisting these chairmen to gather articles.
