Accepts Coaching Position At Howe Military Academy * Jerry Johnson former Walkerton High School basketball player has accepted the head coaching position at Howe Military Academy at Howe, Indiana. Jerry has been assistant coach at Jimtown the past two years. After graduating from Walkerton (now John Glenn) High School in 1958 Jerry earned his B. A. degree at Western Michigan University in 1962 and his M. A. degree in 1966. He taught in the Penn - Harris - Madison school system from 1962-1965. His 1965-66 B-.squad at Jimtown won the Elkhart County Btoumey, compiling a 14-7 record. Icc Cream Takes To Cake Surprise! Surprise! Nestled in the center of a new version of a dcvil’s-fooil cake is delicate, pink strawberry ice cream. The cake’s made in minutes from a mix, the center scooped out and the softened ice cream scooped in. The Borden Kitchen did give a hint of the surprise to come, though, by cloaking the cake in a pink frosting of heavy cream and sugar, then crcslisg it with plump fresh straw berries. Heavenly Icc-CreanvFillcd Cake (Makes one V-incit tube cake) 1 (Mb. 2-1/2-oz.) package 2 cups (1 pint) heavy cream devil’s-food cake mix 3 tablespoons sugar 1 quart Lady Borden tablespoons kirsch, optional straw berry ice cream 1-- drops red food coloring Prepare cake mix in a 9 x 3-1/2 inch square or round tube .cake pan according to package directions. Bako in a moderate (350°F.) oven 40-45 minutes. Cool. Remove from pan; cool thoroughly. Lot ice cream soften about 15 minutes at room temperature. With a sharp knife, slice a 1-inch horizontal layer from top of cake. Carefully lift off and set aside. To make a tunnel for filling: cut around cake 1/2-mch in from center and 1/2-inch in from outer edge; leave a 1/2-inch base. With a fork, gentlv scoop cake out of tunnel. Carefully spoon softened ice cream evenly into cake shell. Replace layer cut from top; cover ice cream and press on gently. Place is freezer about 8 hours, or until ice cream is very firm. Remove from freezer 15 minutes before serving time. In a small-size mixing bowl, combine heavy cream, sugar, food coloring and kirsch. Heat just until stiff peaks form. Frost sides and top of cake. If desired, garnish with frutdi strawberries. Serve immediately.

Jack Waterman. camp director for the Indiana Society for Crippled Children and Adults, announced today. More than three hundred handicapped campers will enjoy life outdoors - many for the very first time in their lives. Camp Ko< h for ('r ippled Chilren will provide five sessions filled to the brim with activities and fun of camp life for all who attend. One of 76 Easft r Seal camps across the nation serving more than 10,600 crippled childri n this summer. Camp Koch for Crippled Children will be staffed by 16 experienced and trained counselors. In addition, many other handicapped youngsters will join with children in regular camps for two weeks of camping fun. At camp this summer children will be able to participate tn group activities-swimming. hikeing. and cooking out as part of then daily routine. They will learn, too. how to do for themselves. developing independence and self-reliance.
