Beatys Enjoy Western Trip Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Beaty have returned from a very enjoyable trip of over 6,000 miles to the west coast and back. They were accompanied on the trip out by Mrs. Edgar Cole and sons, Robert and Richard who flew back from Los Angeloes. On the way they visited Mrs. Beaty's sister, Mrs. Lawrence Freeman at Norman, Oklahoma; the Royal Gorge, Bryce and Zion National Parks and Capital Reef. The main events of the trip were the graduation exercises for their grandchildren, William Roberts from 9th grade and Judy Roberts from Sr. High on June 23rd. The week at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Richard Roberts and family of Canoga Park, went entirely too quickly for those who loved the swimming pool. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Freeland and son, Kent, of Las Cruces and Mrs. Marie Roberts, of Fort Wayne were also guests in the Roberts home. Before leaving California the Beaty’s visited in the homes of their nephews Roger, Roy Paul and Robert Reeder and then traveled to Portland and Mulino, Oregon where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Tom Beaty; Mr. and Mrs. Orren Beaty and Mrs. Edward Beaty. The weather was as unusual there as it has been here for it was very hot in northern California, even driving through the beautiful redwood forests, and Oregon and Idaho were really hot. However there seemed to have been plenty of rainfall and pastures were green and the fruit was beautiful. Strawberries and red raspberries were wonderful and the cherry orchards in Oregon were really something to see. Os course the vineyards and the hundreds of acres of vegetables growing and being harvested by the migrants were also interesting. The fireworks at Laramie, Wyoming, on the fourth of July were just about the same as we usually enjoy in Walkerton and I guess it was about as cool there as here. Judy accompanied her grandparents home and plans to spend several weeks visiting relatives in Indiana and Ohio before she

returns for college this fall.

warfare tactics at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, with the Third Battalion, Sixth Marine Regiment, an element of the Second Marine Division. His regiment’s primary mission is to engage and capture or destroy the enemy by weapons fire, maneuver, and shock action. Guantanamo Bay is the United States' oldest overseas naval base, acquired through a lease agreement with Cuba in 1903. The base includes a harbor, ship repair facilities, and two airfields. Guantanamo’s wartime role is to support combatant naval forces operaing in the Atlantic. From tms base, the southern approachs to the United States can be controlled. Its peacetime role is to support fleet operational training. Guantanamo’s aerial gunnery range, which is available to the Atlantic Fleet, is the only one unhampered by commercial air traffic.
