“World Tour” For OES In Walkerton A "World Tour” theme greeted the large attendance at the called meeting of Walkerton chapter. Order of the Eastern Star Friday evening, June 23 at the Masonic Temple. Special guests were worthy matrons and worthy patrons of chapters in District 20. known as the M & M's. Mrs. Ray Oberly, Bremen, associate grand matron of the Indian Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and Mrs. Betty Myers of Milford chapter. Deputy of district 20 were also distinguished guests. Mrs. Verkier read a poem of welcome. Mrs. Oberly was escorted to the south west where she was joined by Mrs. Charlie bhinke who pinm*d a corsage on her. Mrs. John McCombs, chapter soloist sang a clever parody to "We Wish you a Rainbow" in her honor. Mrs. Steinke escorated her to the east where she was introduced and welcomed. Mrs. Myers was escorted to the north west where she was honored by a song before taken to the east for introduction and a corage was presented to her by Mrs. Verkier. Both ladies were given miniature travel cases for the World Tour to come later in the evening. Both distinguished guests gave short talks; Mrs. Oberly stressed the carrying out by the chapters the \\ orthy Grand Matron and Patrons projects for their year.

Mrs. Myers gave an inspiring talk on "Time”, and how we should use it each day. Twenty two chapters of the twenty six in the district was represented. Vouchers given every one were clever hand paintd heads and faces of all races. These were made by 16 year old Connie Verkier, daughter of the Worthy matron and Patron. A social hour followed in the reception room was gailey decorated with many travel posters. The tables held bud vases of red roses and a display of mementos of foreign lands. Place cards for the special guests were folders of postal notes. A salad bar, punch and coffee were enjoyed while the group was entertained by a tour of many countries by the song and dance. A double quartet of students of the South Central School of Union Mills presented a delightful program. They closed their program with singing, "This Land is your Land". Mis. James Grieger, music director at South Central accompanied and directed the youths, composd of the Misses Jan Fryer Mary Clark, Mary Siegesmund and Sally Jo Grieger. Also Dennis Johnson, Steve Cummings, Gary Gardner and John Lauderdale, the latter is from Westville High and was substituting for a member of the quartette who was unable to appear. Members responsible for the unique decor were: Mrs. WalterJackson. Mrs. Gerald Creed. Mrs. Mary Bauer, Mrs. Edward Peterson, Mrs. Carl Gjemre Jr., and Mrs. Robert Johnson assisted by the officers. OPEN HOUSE Mr. James Dare will be guest of honor at an open house in his home in Teegarden Sunday, July 9 from 2 pan. to 5 p.m. The affair is being given by his wife and family in celebration of his 87th birthday. No invitations are being sent but all friends and relatives are invited. They request no gifts please.
