Walkerton Town Board News The Board of Trustees of the Town of Walkerton convened in regular session, Tuesday evening, June 20th, with Trustee W.L. Heil, President, L. Frailey; Dr. W. M. Denaut and Geo. W. Ochs in attendance. Minutes of previous session were approved and outstanding claims presented and following consideration authorized payable from the respective funds. Mrs. Harry Malstaff, chairman of the Harold C. Urey Historical Marker project, for the Orville Easterday Post 189 of the American Lgion appeared before the meeting to receive final approval of the Town Board for the placing of the bronze marker on an Indiana Limestone screen on the corner' of U.S. 6 ( Roosevelt Road I and Illinois Street, or better known as the old band stand site, property of the town of Walkerton. It is hoped that the screen and marker will be in place by July 4th for a possible public dedication at that time. The Street Department was auhorized to continue the marking off of parking stalls on the side streets of the business areas at the same angle as recently laid out on Van Buren Street. 700 block, as experimental project. It is found the new angle gives greater traffic area and makes getting in and out of the vehicles much easier. However. Several parking stalls per block are lost due to the new angle placement, but will be offset with greater safety potentials. Installation of dr v-wt 11 type catch basin, as previously discussed, was authorized installed by the Creed Septic Tank and Excavating Company at the corner of Clarke Blvd, and Georgia Street to assist in < urectiiq surface water conditions in the Clarke Addition. Due to the next regular meeting date falling on the 4th of July, the Board will convene in session on Monday, July 3rd for a short business session. PIJ SCHOOL BOARD NEWS The meeting opened with the superintendent ^reporting on insurance needs for the new John Glenn High School. It was reported that the school attorney was presently evaluating the proposed insurance policy. A brief report followed concerning construction progress, and to the projected time schedule for completing the road from U.S. 6 through to the site. The Superintendent further reported concerning the suminr maintenance program, and that all faculty positions for 1967-68 have been filled. T . v The Superintendent yvas advised to arrant for lighting the west entrance of Glenn H.S., necessary furniture and equipment for the, ^superintendents office yvas selected, and Dennis Buri h yvas employed by the board to assist with the summer 4-H program. Expenses for a curriculum meeting at Indiana State University on June 15. for the Superintendent and David Whaby. elementary principal, were approved. The board was presented a written report by the guidance department concerning a followup dudy of all 1965-66 graduates. The report shows that 35.7 percent of those graduated are enrolled in either tour year programs or technical training school, 52 4 percent are working. 3.5 percent arg. houseyvives. 2.4 percent < 1 the girls are unemployed, and that 6.0 percent of the boys arc in the armed services. Iwo To Attend Latin Course At Indiana Larry Charts, and Greg Campbell. of • Walkerton, are among 100 high school sophomores and juniors who will attend one of two High School Latin Institutes to be held at Indiana Univocally June 25-July 1 and July 9-15A The major purposes of the Institutes will be to introduce the students to* the University, and to the stuth; of the classics yvithin the University, stated Dr. Edwin Ramage, LU. associate professor of classics, and Institute directc r. The participants will attend classes and faculty lectures on Latin, Greek, archaeology, history and teaching. On Friday of each week, the students will be guests at a Brown County Playhouse production in Nashville. The highlight of each Institute will be an address by John W. Past Matrons and Past Patrons of Walkerton Chapter Order of the Eastern Star yvill hold their annual picnic at Stuntz Pine Forest, Sunday July 16 at 12:30 noon. Mr. and Mrs. George Ferverda are chairman of arrangements. Sunday dinner and supper guests of Mrs. Mildred Dutcher and Pam were, Mr. and Mrs. John Kelly and family, Mr and Mrs. Steve Clark and family and Robert Kepcha all of LaPorte; Robert Oberlin, of LaCrosse and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Voss and family - of Michigan City. Danny Surface, who resided with his aunt and uncle, Rev. and Mrs. Dean Krieg, has been transferred from the- Elkhart General Hospital to the Vetern’s Hospital in Fort Wayne. Danny was seriously injured in an auto accident on May 27 in Elkhart. He is sufferimr* from diffuse brain damage and 3rd degree burns. As to date he has not regained consciousness. Danny is the grandson of Rev. and Mrs. Carl F. Surface, form' r residents of the North Liberty community, lie served in the U.S. Army in Viet Nam and came home last April 1.
