Indiana State Chamber of Commerce stated. The State Chamber of Commerce made this observation as it Completed a state-wide industrial canvass and issued its 10th edition of the "Indiana Industrial Directory". The directory lists approximately 11,000 Hoosier manufacturers, processors, and wholesalers, 1,400 more companies than in the directory in 1958-59 edition. Market Prices. The second annual Eisteddfod or carnival of song will be held at the Theatre of Nations, International Friendship Gardens, near Michigan City, on Sunday afternoon, June 15. Invitations have been issued to all singing groups in Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan to participate and over 15 entries are already in. Fred Best Buys Lee's Shoe Shop. Fred Best, of West York, has purchased Lee's Shoe Shop in Walkerton, and began operation of the same on Tuesday this week. Mrs. Best and their son William, will be associated with him in the operation of the store. Plan Walkerton pld Settlers Picnic. Plans are under way for an "Old Settlers" picnic for Walkerton to be held in the gradi school gymnasium on Saturday. June 21. All former residents of Walkerton and community are invited to come back for this occasion when a permanent organization will be formed and plans made to make the occasion an annual event. Valentine Announces 4-11 Fair Dates. The twenty-first annual 4-H fair will be held Augu.-t 6 thru 9th at Playland Park. South Bend, according to Oscar W. Valentine. principal of Lakeville high school, who has been re-named secretary with an office at the park fair grounds. At least 1500 St. Joseph county 4-H boys and girls throughout the county are busily engaged in many projects. 1942 Name Youths l or Camp. The Orville Easterday Post American Legion has selected two sons of Legion members to send to the Boys State camp at Indianapolis, which will be held at the State School for the Blind, from June 20 to 27. The two boys selected are Richard Kramer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kramer and Robert Worster son of Mr. and Mrs. Darcy Worster.
Eight County Schools Take Applications. Eight county schools throughout St. Joseph county were opened so? rationing of canning sugar this week when it was discAV^ed that the South Bend offices could not take care of the crowds adequately. Older Alumni Plan Picnic. The older alumni of the North Liberty high school, those who attended school in the old school house, will hold a picnic at Liberty park, Sunday, June 21. A pitch-in dinner will be a feature attraction at noon. All participants are requested: 'Please bring your own SUGAR!" 1928 Kills Bald Eagle. Alvin Barber, east of Walkerton. shot and killed a bald eagle measuring 6 feet and 8 inches from wing tip to wing tip. The eagle was in the Roy Sheneman barn lot after full grown chickens. Mr. Sh<neman had it mounted and it is now on display at his law office in Walkerton. 7 Killed; II Hurt in Interurban Collision. Danville, 11l - Seven persons w<-re killed and eleven injured when two interurban cars on the Illinois traction system crashed head on n<ar Fithian. 12 miles west of Danville. The collision occured when the air failed to function on the east-bound limited car, sending the heavy steel car through the front end of the west-bound local, which was of wood construction. because of the fact that, for the first time in history, there is a federal satute to prevent desecration of the flag. After all these years the federal government has finally followed the lead of Ult different states in this matter and congress has passed such a bill. Os course, no true American would wish to desecrate the flag, but how many Americans know their flag etiquette?
