this car as it must be braked in successfully running thr. vehicle THIS CAR COVIJI WIN THIS year and it Could be victim of many other things the same as any car at Indianapolis. However, this race should prove a principle and start a trend another way . Expense is probably tremendous in this vehicle in the early stages and this could be a factor in heavy use of this type vehicle for a few years. EVERYTHING CONSIDERED, this 1967 version of the World's Gn atcst Auto Race, should be a real thrilling event. With 9o cars entered, although some are back-up vehicles from name drivers, c impetition will be very keen to get in the sarting lin< -up only 33 can start and that means a lot of thinning down. It weather conditions are good come Saturday. May 13. th< opening day <>f qualifications could be the greatest eve) Drivers a rent going to wait this year to get in the race. They will be very anxious to make the starting field as soon as the weather and car are up to the expectations. ALSO FEATURED LN THIS year's race is the greatest bunch of foreign drivers that has appc .i’d at Indianapolis since before World War I. This adds a lot of flavor and color as some of the mad racing drivers have really gained fame at Indianapolis such as Jimmy Clark and Graham Hill. The ability of the foreign drivers to come to Indianap >lis "cold" and drive exceptionally well has been remarkable when the US drivers fight year after ya ar and practice the track to the extreme almost and still take a back seat to these road lacing d’iv. rs *‘»om abroad. HEADING TH., CONTINGent of American drivers has to be Mario Andretti, who is just amazing as he continually pushehis car around the tra<k at new records. A failure early in the race last year put him out. but should his car hold out. he has to be contended with in any race. Also featured will be Jones in the special car, and A.J Foyt Tlu-se are the biggest local names in driving, but there arc others such as Dan Guerny. Roger McCluskey and Jim McElreath. to name a few of the ones given a better chance to yvin. FROM HERE ON THROUGH the actual race day. headlines in the spoils world will center around the famed Indianapolis Sp*-edway as once again the Greatest Auto Race in the World will unfold to a crowd of over 300,000 on Memorial Day and millions more over radio and TV all over the wor Id This year's purse has been set at ovt i $700,000 to further vanfy this as the greatest spectacle in lacing "How do you feel today'"’ the young distor asked brightly as he looked in on his elderly patient "I ve fell a lot better." replii-d the old man "My right leg is giving rm right much misery. It is pn tty stiff and acting something fierce." "Well slid the doctor. "I'm sure that's just old age." "Don't believe so," said the old man "My left leg's exactly the same age .and it don't bother me none at all. ^I.A^S IT SAFE Litt!” trouble will com»- to the man who lives on the Iheorv "When in doubt, don't " I riday A Saturday Max 5 A 6 r starring Tony Curtis Jack Ix-nunon and Natalie Wood In the grratost cmuod^ of all time!
