Shocking The record death toll in Indiana last year of 1966, due to traffic accidents, isn't n< ws by this time. However, some other statistics h i\'< been i> leased that certainly explain the constant concern for autombile safety and the rising costs of insurance. In 1966. tnere were 169.276 traffic accidents reported to the police that had damage of $50.00 or more or injury or death Involved. In addition, some of the persons hurt in 1966 have since died, not adding to the 1966 total. The total estimated property damage is approximately $3.5 million. This figures out to be 464 accidents per day involving more than the SSO damage or personal injury. This kind of slaughter and property damage has skyrocketed the insurance premiums and justifibly so. It hurts the safe driver who doesn't have claims and there is always an effort to give the proven good driver a break, but this isn't always possible. Traffic accidents certainly Gt EST EDITOKI XL
It certainly is a shame to walk down the streets of Walkerton and look at the candy wrappers. beer cans. rags, sticks and loads of dirt. When the wind blows, you have to shut your eyes for fear of being blind<*d by the dirt. Clean-Up in front of your own door and property Would help make the town more attractive to others. Everyone has a spare moment during the day to go outside and pick up the trash others have thrown

Statistics! are semi thing that is never going to be eliminated, There is too much to be taken into consideration. Human error is by far and away first on the list. The matt« r of judging to conditions is often the failure that causes an accident. You can run right down the traffic violations and each and everyone will add to the list. Safety ranks way behind, but despite this, a continued drive to nulke ears safer continues. It would take some car however, to withstand a head-on collision at even 50 mph, let alone the speeds the automobiles of today can reach. The big factor is still the human element. It is our duty as much as the next persons to make this element the smallest possible. Every person behind the wheel of a vehicle anymore is taking at least their own life in their hands and usually the lives of others just as soon as they start their motor. If the motor in the head runs smoothly, the motor in the car will have a better chance.
