Jackson In Ist Tourney Game North Liberty's Shamrocks exi ’ dcd with an eight point outurst in the first thiee minutes the fourth quartci to ruin the >wdown game plans of .la< kn's Tigers to pull away for a ;-36 victory in their opening one of the 1967 sectional. A ie score of 25-25 was showing n the scoreboard as the two jiiads opened the fourth peiiod nlv to have the Shamrocks fii illy get things rolling their way iter a slow first three quarters. Kerry Kane broke the tie 27 seconds into thr final period as he hit a jumper from medium t inge. Shortly after, he hit a pair of free throws and Steve Mlekodaj was next to score with a lay-in a minute and a half later. Mlekodaj then also hit a pair of charity shots and a tight game had started to break open as the Shamrocks now enjoved a 33-25 lead. Jackson then came out of their hell. Tetzlaff hit a free shdt, but Mlekodaj matched it. Marten hit a pair of one-pointers nut Kane came bac k with anothr jumper. McKelvey hit the Tigers' first basket of the period is time was half gone only to have Joe Ginzer hit a free throw md then a jumper. Mlekodaj ind Chris Anderson each hit a pair of foul shots and the lead Shamrocks were pulling away to the 53-36 victory. Shamrocks Jump To A Lead The game started with the Shamrocks jumping to a lead that looked like it might be a run-a-way. Kane hit first and Ginzer added two baskets for a 6-0 lead in the first minute and a half Tetzlaff opened the offensive game for Jackson with a pair of free throws, but Ginzer hit from out and Mlekodaj added a free throw for a 9-2 lead. Jackson took their first lend in the third period as Marten hit another jumper. Ginzer tied it with a long one-hander, but Marten added a free throw for the Tigers. Kane hit a lay-in only to have Tetzlaff match this and the lead changed hunds once again Ginzer tied it at X; all with a free throw and then hit a lay-in for North Liberty. A lax-tn by Armey knotted the two teams once again at 25. the way the third quarter ended setting the stage for the Shamrock drive of the final period.
