NOTRE DAME WILL HAVE our more game against Southern ’alifomia and Michigan State will com hide their season regardess of the outcome due to the t tct they aren't eligible for the Rose Bowl this year, so this is further proof the winnei will be • Himber one. THIS GAME SATURDAY IS •ue that has drawn lots of comment. from several weeks ago light up to and including kickff time. Just what the outcome will be, may be decided in the nal minute, or the game might be one-sided after things get going. MICHIGAN STATE AGAIN h;w a fine defensive club as does Notre Dame. However, the Spart ins have been a bt easier to score on than the Irish as State has all wed considerably nioie yardage and points. They have excelled in their defense on the ground. but have had several teams prove that the ball can be moved through the air. Notre Dame on the other hand has be. n real stubborn both ways and with their tiemendous line, have pretty well stopped most passing attacks with a tremendous rush and as many as six or seven nu n cropping back to cover all the passing zones It remains to be seen whether N<>tre Dame's front line will be able to penetrate the State forward wall on pass rushing. If they have to go into more men rushing consistently, it will hurt as their line backers have accounted for many intern ptions this year. NOTRE DAME US U A LL Y has split up their offensive charge well with just about an even attack on ground and in the air. A couple of games Terry Hamatty lias been a little erratic on his passing. but basically he has been rather accurate, which he will have to be Saturday. The tremendous threat of passing they have disclosed. won't allow a defense to "cheat" any in one phase of the game as the Irish have also piled up tremendous yardage on tin- ground. A well balanced attack is always worth much more and harder to defense. Last year, the complete lack of a passing attack let Michigan State stack linemen and linebackers up so tight that the Irish had negative yardage on the ground. This happened again Saturday by the Spartans against Indiana, but oh the yardage the Hoosiers gained through the air because of this. If Indiana, a team with one win and a tie all year, can move that well against the Spartans, what can a powerhouse like Notre Dame do?

This, of course, remains io w seen. THE SPARTANS LIKE BASically to run with Just enough passing to keep a defense honest. They play a real powerful type of ball and have a running quarterback in Raye, who likes to roll out a lot and run the option play with absolutely no fear of running. Their offensive backs of Jones, Api.-.a an 1 Jones, all are tremendous runners and their strong forte has been to gel some daylight for these four runners, hoping that after they break through the line, their speed an ! ability will carry for the king guinei Ray can throw the ball and has two fine receivers in Washington and Brenner. Just what coach Daugherty will come up W’ilh for a game plan, will certainly be responsibility for their success or lack of it. He may divide to open up the air lanes and pass a lot or continue to nin into the front four of the Irish, hoping timt State can Wear them down over the course of the day. PARSEGHIAN'S PLAN YOU ran almost read without trying. It will be Hanratty throwing a lot with bursts into the line by Eddy. Con jar and Blier. The Irish will certainly try the State line, but will have already decid••d that passing is a must against this team. The breaks of the prune will play an important part in the outcome. If either team ran get a couple of early breaks and take advantage of them, kink out. it could be rather lopsidi-d. Playing catch-up football against either of these two teams is about the hardest thing that could be asked Os a team. AT ANY RATE SATURDAY, a crowded stadium of foot bid’ Luis will be watching in person and everywhere the Regional telecast reaches, you can be sure that a majority of the sets will bo tuned to this game. The dream game is almost here and if all holds true that is expected, it will be just that for the title of number one for this year and possibly many others as well. THE PINCH A bird in the bush is worth a dozen in your hand — if the game warden happens along.
