NORTH LIBERTY HOMECOMING ALL SET
P-L-J P.T.A. Groups To Have Joint Meeting On Monday evening, October 17, at 7:30 p.m. the Tyner School P.T.A, will host a meeting of the combined P.T.A. groups of the Polk-Linet ln-Johnson School Corporation. The meeting will feature a panel discussion on "Religion in the Schools". A panel consisting of four individuals with slightly different thoughts on the topic will discuss the recent Supreme Court decisions concerning Bible reading and prayer in the public scho<4s. Foil >wing individual presentations by the panelists and discussion between them, the discussion will be open to questions and comments from members of the audit nee. Speaking will be Professor Thomas L. Shaffci, Professor of Law at the University of Notre Dame, who is also counsel for the South Ben i Chapter of the in liana Civil Liberties Union; Rev. John T. Brier. Pastor of the First Brethren Church in South Bend, a member of the board of the St. Joseph County Youth for Christ, and Secretary of the National Publication Board of the Brethren Church; Bernard H. Natkow, Executive Director of the Jewish Community Council of South Bend who has served also as a public school teacher; and James V. Panoch, Executive Secretary of the Religious Instru' tion Association. Inc., of Fort Wayne and part time teacher in the public schools teaching a class in Biblical Literature. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the gymnasium nt the Tyner School. The meeting is open to all interested people in the area and it is hoped that a good crowd will turn out for this informative and provacative program. College And Career Night At JGHS College and Career Night will be hell at the John Glenn High Schoo) Thursday evening. October 20, at 7:30 p.m. The following colleges, universities an 1 tra le schools will be present to discuss i applications, costs, scholarships, housing and any other questions that the students or parents might have concerning college or trade schools. Chicken Barbecue This Sunday Rain Or Shine Rain or shine, Sunday. October 16. is the date of the once-post-pi ned Walkerton Lions Club annual (Thicken Barbecue. Arrangements have been made to handle the outside cooking. regardless of weather and serving of course, will be in the Lions Club Youth Building on Washington Street. Serving will start appt ximately at noon, but if you’re a little early, they will be r< adv for you. The committees are the same as was planned before. Falcons Visit South Central Friday Night The John Glenn Falcons, who have their last four games on the road, will travel to South Central this Friday night for a game with the Satellites. This contest will begin at 7:30 p.m. South Central has made fine progress m football since starting a varsity schedule last season and this promises to be another fine ball game. Plan to follow the Falcons and give this young team a lot of encouragement as they are progressing all the time in then battb to become first rate in high school football. They are becoming much more sound in the fundamental aspects. but lack the experience they need this yenwith their heavy influence of under< lassmen. Shamrocks Bat Ue North Judson Here Saturday North Liberty's Shamrocks will play their first game on the North Liberty field Saturday aftemoon when they host the North Judson Bluejays in a game that will pit the two boys who are runing a^lay with the area scoring race. Gail Ross of the Shamrocks and Ken Dolezal of North Judson are both scoring unbelievable amount of points this season for their respective clubs. The game will be the homecoming contest with plenty of festivities other than the game being crowded into this gay week end. Football action will start at 2 iH) pm. Saturday. North Judson Is Football Game Opponent The Sixth Annual Homecoming Program i.s being plann.-d for North Liberty High School, Saturday. October 15, 1966. Once defeated North Liberty will take on North Judson High School in tliejr Annu.il Homecoming football game on Saturday, October la, at. 2 GO p.m. at the Shamrocks' field. Coach Jack Lowe's Shamrocks are hoping to make the Bi i jays their sixth victim ot the s-sion. The townspeople and members of the student b<Kly are proud of the accomplishments of C>ach Jack Lowe's squad thus far and are looking ahead to the big game on Saturday. The town i.s currently contributing to the festive atmosphere with more than twenty merchants decorating their places of business in line with the occasion. On Saturday morning, the decorations I will be judged by a committee from the Football Boosters Club. The Boosters Club has purchased a revolving trophy to be presented to the winner at the half of the game. Floats are being prepared by each class and will take part in the parade prior to the football game. The students of North Liberty High School have sele« ted a queen ' and court who will be crowned at the half of the football game and will be recognized at the Homecoming Dance on Saturday eve- ' ning. The football letternun who have graduated have been invited back to the school for the occasion and will be recognized prior 1 to the game. The Homecoming program will begin with a bonfire pep rally on the si hiM'l grounds Thursday evening, October 13, at 7 30 p.m. Saturday s activities will begin with a parade through b vn at 1 :00 p.m A halftime show will be pres-'nted by the N >rth Li tarty High S< h * 1 Band under the direction of Richard Van ier Hagen and de< oration and float winners will be announced. The pro. ram will culminated with a Homecoming Dance sponsored by the Booster-' Club from 8:00 to 11 30 p.m. in th< high school gym. The Homecominy program Is being co-sponsored by the Footbull Boosters Club and the North Liberty High School.
