Time Is Still A Problem
Many words have bwn printed. broadcast and talked about in this an a concerning the time situation in Indiana. Once again the time is drawing near for the six month's switch that effects this area every year with ;» boundary line on one side or another. For years, this time switch has been going on for < ne reason or another. For just as many years, this area has been on one borderline or another. For years this has caused hardships among individuals and often among groups of people in an area concerning working hours, school hours, etc. This is one of those things that everyone talks about and very few can do anything about. It wasn't too many years ago when the State of Indiana was by law, governed on what time they could abide. But what is to happen to violators? Are you going to arrest all of Ft. Wayne, Elkhart. Indianapolis and all the other cities and everyone in between due to the fact they set their clocks an hour ahead? Laws are said to be broken and even the capital city broke this one. are in such a position that the dividing line is always near us. For years it has been on the county either to the east or the west with a couple of years a much more broken line marking the change. Walkerton and North Liberty have always followed South Bend and will in all probability Continue to do so. However, the difference between South Bend and Chicago half the year isn't pleasant either as many people around here have govciened themselves by Chicago for years. This was long the place of all information on radio and for many still is on TV. This is another petty thing that enters into the argument, the difference in TV programs. Th most recent survey taken by the South Bend-Mishawaka Area Chamber of Commerce shows the favoring of fast time year round. This survey however, was of businesses and business people, not the person who is loading school children on the busses at 7:15 in total darkness. There is no doubt that it won't be a set thing this year, but maybe in'the future this could be voted on in a true manner and find out the true desires of the people.
