PU SCHOOL BOARD NEWS The Polk-Lncoln-Johnson Board of School Trustees met in regular session in the office of the Superintendent of Schools. Walkerton, Indiana, September 26, 1966. The meeting was called to order by the president, minutes were read, claims issued and proper warrants were drawn. The superintendent gave a transportation report concerning all bus routes and the State Police inspection which was held at the Walkerton Elementary School Friday. September 23, 1966. Dr. Hobbs reported that the transportation program and buses are generally in excellent condition. A report was given concerning equipment stolen at the Tyner school during the summer months. State police have investigated and losses turned over to the insurance company. A report was presented the board of education from Robert Call from the State Board of Accounts office. The stale is reporting that the school records are in very good condition with only minor adjustments to be made. The board discussed the possibility of an evening adult education program and advised the superintendent to investigate the needs in the community. There was an additional appropriation from the Cumulative Building Fund for Soil Exploration. SB2B 00. and architect fees of $23,385.00 The board agreed to purchase a land parcel from Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Williams. The attainment of this parcel completes the needed land for the right-of-way from U. S. 6 to the new school site. Tables were purchased for the new kindergarten room and rugs for foyers in various buildings are to be obtained. A calculator was also purchased for the administrative office. There was also a building corporation meeting with James Foley, school architect, present to discuss final working drawings of the new John Glenn High School. Each phase of the working drawings was discussed in detail. The working drawings wen* approved by the Building Corporation and the Board of School Trustees on the agreement that changes advocited by the boards be included into the pl ms. It appears at this time that it will take approximately five weeks to revise the drawings and obtain approval fmm various state agencies. Proj.rt.d d.d< f i receiving contract bids is November 15. Const ruction is under way for a new modem bank building at the comer of Vanßuren and Illinois Streets in Walkerton to serve the customers of Walkerti n Branch of the Faimerx State Bank of Wyatt. Constant growth of the bank s business in the Walkert- n-Ko ntz Like and surrounding area, necessitated the move in location to the new site where greatly enlarged quarters could be provided, along with a drive-in-window and increased parking facilities. New quarters will provide room for seven teller stations, spacious lobby area, officers area, two private offices and enlarged vault to allow for additional safe deposit boxes. Plans call for installation of an Armstrong Luminaire ceiling system and carpeting in all areas. Harry H. Verkier Construction Company of South Bind, is the general contractor, and William A. Wilcockson of Plymouth, the architect.
