Combined Schools Set For 196667 School Year At their board meeting August 31, the P-L-J Board of School Trustees voted unanimously to consolidate the two high schools
of the district into one facility for the G 6-67 school year. The decision is in keeping with the Purdue Survey that stated “It would be advisable to consolidate the existing two high schools one year in advance of occupancy of a new high school." Heil Named To Serve As Board President At the Town Board meeting Tuesday night, Walter L. Heil, vice-president of the ’board, wa*> elected to the position of piesident to fill the vacancy left by, the recent resignation of David M. Mellin. No vice-president was selected at the meeting and also, no appointment has been made to fill the vacancy in the second Ward. Watch For School Busses It is that time of year again when one big obstacle again becomes a very important part of the traffic picture. That is tiu? school bus that makes stops all along the major highways as well as all side roads. Not only is the bus enough of a hazard to merit careful driving, especially at the time of day when pick up and delivery of the students is taking place, but the children are the real hazard as they get on and off the bus each day. YEAR OF 1946 Set Up Police Patrol For School Children A police patrol at the intersection of Roosevelt Road and Illinois Streets has been established to operate twice daily, Monday through Friday, for the protection of school children crossing the national highway in Walkerton. Returned Vets Must Register Before November Election Three special dates for registering all citizens not now qualified to vote in the November general election, have been set in St. Joseph County by a bi-parti-san board. The dates are Thursday. Friday and Saturday, September 19, 20 and 21. Additional Funds Needed For Memorial Additional funds are greatly needed to complete the drive for SI,OOO being raised by the War Mothers to be used in the erection of a suitable war memorial in the local cemetery. Wheat Goal Upped Indiana’s 1947 wheal goal totaling 1,500.000 acres is announced by L. M. Vogler, state director of the Production and Market ing Administration. This figure is a slight increase over the 1916 goal of 1.449.000 acres. YEAR OF 1941 Rialto Collects $51.65 for F.S.O. The Rialto Theatre -collected $51.65 last week for the United Service Organization in its drive all over the country for funds. Has Nice Orchard Mr. and Mrs. John Blazich, who moved from Chicago to Walkerton three years ago, and purchased a farm on road 23, a half-mile south of Walkerton, have been delighted with the progress made by their young orchard during that time.
