Welcome To Weedsville!

Welcome to Weedsville! That is wh it th- slims at the edges of Walkerton should say the way the weeds are prospering at the edges ■ t town. Esp - cially hid is 'be vntran-c from the north on Indiana 23 between the B & O Railroad and the Town Electric riant. This has gotten to the point of almost completely covering signs and certainly does nothing to beautify the appearance or make conditions of driving any more favorable. This isn't the only location. It is on all edges of town at one place or another. Some of this is state property, some individual owned and some under the governing powers of the town. All towns have a weed problem, especially where vacant lots are concerned. They fight and plea to get these cut, usually with very little success, as this is a factor from one town

and city to another. However, the case in Walkerton is somewhat different. Often you see state tractors cutting grass along the sides of the highways, but this section at the north edge of Walkerton hasn't seen any attention this summer. Walkerton, as is most towns and cities, is trying to grow. Because of this, they are attempting to draw new industry as well as people to work in the towns and live here besides. This isn't a very good advertisement for a community trying to lure anything but bugs and mosquitos into their limits. Such as this can be especially bad at the season when hayfever sufferers are having their difficulties, let alone the general degrading of appearance at all times. This is something that would take a little time for several parties and certainly help the appearance of a growing, progressive community.

Too good service doesn't always pay. Take this .sad story of a cab driver, for example. An order came over his radio to pick up a fare at a certain address. It so happened he was driving past the house as the call went out. The woman had just hung up the phone when he rang the doorbell. All the explaining in the world didn't convince th- - lady of the coincidence. She still insisted, "I wouldn’t ride with anybody who drives as fast as you must,” and slammed the door in his face.
