Seaman Recruit Thomas L. Emmons. USN. son of Mis. Edward Brown of Route 2, North Liberty, has completed seven weeks of Navy basic training at the Naval Training Center here. In the first weeks of his naval service, he studied military subjects and lived and worked under conditions similar to those he will encounter on his first ship or at his first shore station. In making the transition from civilan to sailor, he was taught and supervised by experienced Navy petty officers. He learned the basic skills of seamanship, as well as survival techniques, military drill and other basic subjects. Upon completion of his recruit training, he was assigned to a school, shore station or ship, according to the results of his Navy classification tjsts, his own desires, and the needs of the Navy. SAN DIEGO, Calif, Marine Private Kenneth F. Clark, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer L. Clark of Route 1. Walkerton, was graduated from eight weeks of recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot here. Under the supervision of veteran non-commissioned officer Drill Instructors, he learned small arms marksmanship, bayonet fighting, and methods of self-protection. VIETNAM M ari n e Private First Class Thomas Erdelvi, son of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Erdelvi of Walkerton. is in the Hue Phu Bai area < f Vietnam serving as a member of Company D, First Battalion. Fourth Marine Regiment, Third Marine Division. He is participating in day and night patrols, ambushes, and exte ided search and destroy operatlons against Viet Cong forces. He is also helping to man

List Winners In Lincoln Twp. 4-H Work Judging in Lincoln Twp. took place Thursday for foods, clothing and craft projects in Girls Division. Local winners are eligible to enter their projects at the St. Joseph County 4-H Fair August 2-6. Following judging in the afternoon. an open house and fashion pleasure of parents, friends and members. Fashion on Review' was the theme with 4-H Leader Miss Mary Lee Loucks as narrator. They are Carol Tuttle and Mark Malstaff who will compete for County honors Tuesday night in the opening ceremonies of the St. Joseph County Fair as County Queen and King.
