TOWNS PLAN 4th of JULY CELEBRATION
Carnival Again To Highlight Fun In Walkerton Walkerton again i g planning a big 4th of July celebration that vlill feature a carnival, plenty of entertainment all day long in the park and climaxed again by a b>g display of fireworks. The plans for this celebration are complete with the Walkerton Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Post 189 and Lions Club aga; ; n co-.^ponsoi-ing the program. The car nival Drago Shows, will be in town and in operation on Tuesday, June 28, and continue through the Fourth. They will be open every night with another hg Kiddies Day program on Saturday afternoon, July 2. One big feature of the Walkerton celebration will be missing this year due to problems b yond control. The balloon ascension and parachute drop will not take place as Professor Claude E. Shafer, who annually puts on this show, had a fire recently destroying h ; s balloon. car and parachutes. He said it would be impossible to have another balloon made in time for this year, but the committee is looking forward to putting the balloon ascension on again in future years. On Monday, July 4th, activities vjill start at Plact Park around noon and a full slate of activities will follow with many contests and games for the kids. Again a refreshment stand will be operated by the participating clubs so a complete day can be made of the program. John Glenn High Wins Two Games As Season Opens The John Glenn High School Baseball team, under the direction of Roger Beehtyr. assisted by John Hans, won their first tvb games of the summer league play. They topped New Carlisle in the opener 7-4 and topped LaVille 3 to 2. In the New Car^e game, five pitchers were used in this game with Craig DeMyer hurling the final three innings getting credit for the u|n. For John Glenn. DeMyer and Peterson had two hits with Peterson adding a double and three RBl’s. Neiswander hud two RBIs on one hit and the team had eight hits in a',l. with Trost. Amor and Smith collecting the other three singles Amor, Trost. Neiswander and Stasko pitched before DeMyer took over. Peterson did the catching. Monday, DeMyer was again the winning pitcher relieving Place in the second inning as LaVille fel^ 3-2 in a very good game. John Glenn opened fast with a triple by Neiswander leading off and he scored on a hit by Trost. In the fifth. Trost was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on a single by DeMyer. The final and winning run came in the sixth on a walk to Stasko, a hit by Curtis and a wfld throw to third. LaVille scored runs in the third and seventh innings. John Glenn had seven hits to LaVilty’s five with DeMyer and Neiswander having tub each and Trost. Peterson and Curtis the other safeties.

Moerman, 72. of Rt. 3 Walkerton, who died at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Fort Wayne, were held at 10 am. Tuesday in St. Patricks Catholic Church. Walkerton. Rev. Anthony Letko, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. The rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Monday in the Nurtbaum Funeral Home. Mr. Moerman whs
bom Dec, 18, 1893, in Belgium. On Dec. 22, 1917, in Mishawaka, he married Hortense Pauwell, who saunnves. Also surviving are a son, Eugene of Walkerton, and two grandchildren. Parade Commences At 2:00 PM In North Liberty A big parade and grand display of fireworks will feature the rtarting and finishing of the North Liberty Fourth of July Festivities with many othrr activities in between. The Fourth of July committee, with the help of the North liberty Fire Department and the local businessmen who finance the program, again has planned a complete day of entertainm-nt on the commemoration of our Nation's birthday. {The panade v|ll really got activities underway at 2 pm. promptly. Quite a few units have already regi-tered for the parade and many more are expected to again make this a fine spectacle for the people of North Liberty and the many visitors who annually attend. The parade will form in the vicinity of Lonzo Oil Company and follow the route I'ight up State Road 23 through th • business district to Mill Street, then left one blink to Jefferson ami back to 23 where it will di-perse. According to the committee, entries in the parade are still open and anyone desiring to enter should do so as soon as possible. Contact Kent Palmar, Bud OCoomor or Bob Oveimyer to enter a unit.
