Winamac Tops Indians 66-50 In Sectional Winamac broke a tight game up in the .wecond half as they dropped Walkerton 66-50 in the 1066 Sectional tourney at Knox Thursday n ght. beading only 2621 at halftime, the Winamac Indians began ot take the Walkerton Indians' none apart to splurge ahead. The first half found Walkerton moving the ball and playing as good as they have all season, but Winamac's sharp shooting and very good floor play made the difference in the lat?r stages. Once again the scoring was slow from the start after Doug Lute swished a one-hand r from about IK feet out on the right side. Nice matched this from the right corner for Winamac, but then the par • slowed cons d rably with Lut • hitting next after two minutes had passed in the game. Shortly after Dave Huff put in a short rebound shot and this was all the scoring until Pesaresi hit with the quarter half gone. He hit again shortly after from the comer to tie the score at 6-6 ami Nice gave th» Winamac crew their first lead as he h t again from the comer with 3:19 showing on the clockNiHuff hit onn free throw, but Hood tossed in an IK-footer for a 10-7 lead. Lute came back with a lay-in on a nice pass from Adam Mann, hut once again it was Nice from the corner as this was the spot the Win-* amac cre»w was setting up against the Indians' zone. Recreation Fund Drive Has Need Os Public Support The Walk rton Community Recreational Project needs your help and .support. This is the word of the committee who has undertaken this project to give to the community a more complete and well-round-ed program. The entire project includes a new Little League bail park, a sports center which will consist of tennis courts, volleyball courts, a roller skating rink which in the winter can be converted for ice skating Also included in the planning is a Teen Club ,n the Youth Building where access to the youth will be given many hours a wo k under proper chaperoned conditions. At present, the little league park is almost ready for use and will be by the time of the first game this summer. The t nnis courts, etc., have been started at the site of the. former little league park, but the wither caught up with the contractor ami they have been unable to get the equipment in there this winter. Tlie work will be completed as soon as the weather allows and this will be op n for yearround use this spring or very early summer. The teen club will follow this other work. Needless to say, this project Is taking money. Despite what many think, money is scare". The total project amounts to sl2 000 an«l the Town of Walkerton is standing ha’f the expense and the root is by public subscription. To date a total of $4500 of the public's share of $6,000 has been raised, mostly through d< - nations by merheants an I imhistry of Walkerton. Now the help of the public is needed. □ □ DEATHS □ Q Mrs. Genevieve Dailey Services for Mrs. Genevieve Dailey, 700 Jackson St., Walkerton. who died Friday, were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Walkerton United Methodist Church, With Rev. Harold E. Williams, pastor. officiating. Burial was in Westville Cemetery. She was a memb.-r of the Walkerton United Methodist Church and Tri Kappa Sorority. Mrs. Dailey was a teacher in the Walkerton Elementary school in the science departmental grades five, six and seven, being affiliated with the Walkerton School system for 16 years. She was born Nov. 21. 1905, in Clinton Twp., residing in Walkerton the last 25 years, coming from Union Mills. On June It. 1910. she was married to Alden Dailey, who died in 1951. Surviving are her mother. Mrs. Emma Cites, of Walkerton, two brothers. L. J. Cites of Tacoma. Wash., and K G. Cites of San Fernando, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Cyrene Tracy and Mrs. Dorothy Lindgreen both of UiPorte. and Mrs Twilo Smith of Oblong, 111. John W. Northam John W Northam. 58, of GOO Indiana St . Cold Streak Is 55-45 Downfall For Shamrocks North Liberty, rated a good chance at winning the LaVille Sectional this year, found a cold streak that will long be remembered. This fact that cost th*-m the ballgame Saturday afternoon and the chance to advance into the finals, something unusual after all the years of action in the South Ben*i m et. Hol ling a good lead over a Bremen team that looked like th* y were falling ‘ apart, the Shamrocks turned ice , cold with Hie aid of three offensive fouls, some 'bad passing and no baskets for over ten min- ' utes. they fell behind to lose by 10, 55-45. Bremen, basically a ball con- ’ troi team in th- tourney, reversed their strategy of earlier this year when they ran wild all the time They were cont* nt to settle down to good shots and this paid off with a sectional title. . Scott opened th * game for North Lib rty with a jumper after a half minute. A lay-in by Wagoner, the big Bremen center, tied th- score and after Scott hit from under, Jones put in a short one-hander forth- I-1 tie. The Shamrocks then mov d ahead until the fateful cold streak Mlekodaj hit three straight baskets and Scott added a fourth with Hurt tossing in a five throw and a 13-4 lead had been grabled with 3:17 to play in the quarter.
