NEVER HAS A BASKETh til ian in this area Bad more t<urnies to keep an eye on with known interest than thi year It wasn't too many years ago when all of St. Joseph County schools were always crowded into John Adams gym and the meet held that pretty well took a l l the interest of the area. But now 1; »w things have changed. ST JOSEPH COUNTY IS n»w split into five sectionals! This almost seems unbelievable, but it is true. Os course, South Bend i? the main spot Next in line would have to lie LaVil! * when figuring the number of t»*ams concern d EaVille, formerly Kakeville and UtPaz of course i> there and now so is one of the t o new schools this year. Jackb n and North Libelty Penn has

twen in Elkhart for years now and Walkerton has trave'ed between Knox. Winamac and Plymouth this yaar being back at the Knox site New CaHlsle is in their lecnnd year at Michigan City, a meet that now has mon* interest in th s area than before since the Michigan City winner now goes to Elkhart to the Fteg ional. INTEREST WILL ALSO BE dinded me tollawing week end as the Regional play begins as still the South Bend sectional winner is the popular choice for most of this area They move into Elkhart for the Regional along with the Elkhart. Michigan City and Warsaw winners. Both Knox and LaVdle lend their winners to Logansport along with the host school and Chesterton's winner.

PICKING WINNERS OF THE various meets is an impo sible job, but now witn iwnedules changing al’ the time and new names popping up that aren't always identifiable with school we have known f r years, it i* impose ole phis hard For a try in this arm we wi'l go along with C ntral in S uth B nd Th< cla s and ability of the Bear d d;i t drop this - ason although their school enr iPm nt did considerably, due to th-’ new schools. Michigan City will g t through their meet (and po shy s ver I n re this year). We like Go-hen's chances again this y. ar at Elkhart although the Bazars are hard t<> beat come the last of February and the first of March This i.s espec ally true on their floor. At Warsaw, we wi'l ride our b"t with Columbia City this year to dethrone the defending Warsaw Tigers Sentiment goe< with Claypool, but to drop both Warsaw and Columbia City is a little too much for that team. FEEDING INTO LOGANSport on March 5, wc are s.ure of one, Valparaiso. Virgil Sweet's aweet club has way too much for all the rest of tho Che.‘terton meet combined, Let alone <" their own. This is the easiest p-th for a major power to g t to a regional there D this year. Logansport should come through their meet in fine style, and at La Ville uxlike Plymouth. The Pilgrims have an outstanding boy in Kralavansky and their stronger schedule throughout the y. ar should how in this meet. At Knox we feel like flipping a coin. Despite the fact that Rochester downed the host Redskins last week a d Knox's play of late hadn’t been too sharp, something tells k to again ride with Knox SPEAKING OF KNOX. THIS is the statefs pot po. ri when It comes to sectional . In the ten team meet, no le.««s th m six counties are representer this year, certainly making it the most unusual tourney from n geographical standpoint n th»* >tate Besides Starke C >unty you have St. Joseph. Pullawki. Mardiall, LaPorte and Fulton. One ot er pet peeve of ours for Severn 1 , years han been the LHSAA's way of handling a 12 team toirney. and it is

baaked up to the hilt by the mess at Elkhart this year. Instead of putting eight teams in one bracket and four in the other, two six team brackets would be Just as easy and convenient. Th? complete unbalance of the Elk- । hart meet should be enough to ’ make the boyat 812 Circle Tower do something about this. AT ELKHART ONE BRACKet is made up of New Paris. Millersburg, Jimtown and Jefferson. All the tickets these ,‘chools will receive, they c add all lay down This biacket will have very little appeal to the other half despite . 4th»i fact tHat one of them will have bo be in the final game. 'Phen consider the other b acket They have all th • schools with any size at all as well as the power. It is true the pow<r can't be distrAruted other than th ■ fate of the draw, but even putting any of the two teams In the 8team bracket wouJd tase the ticket situation a little.
