Monterey Hands 1 Tyner Eleventh Defeat Os Season A very .strong fourth quarter broke up a tight ball game as Monterey moved to an 81-66 victory over Tyner, handing the Rednun their 11th Gel eat in 13 games thia year. With only a Cour point lead going into the final period, Monterey scored strong bi the la t three and a half minutes to turn a 60 59 lead into the 15 point margin of victory. After the two teams traded two baskets each in the op ning minute and a half, Tyner moved ahead on a good effort to take the lend of 19 13 after one quarter. S. Peterson had eight of these point. a* he was pa ( ing the attack. Peterson and Matz hit baskets increasing this lead to 23-13 before a 10 point *purt by Monterey tied the icore. Reinhold had six of these points and Wameley four. From here it was nip-and-tuck with Monterey finally getting a one-point edge, 28-27, at halftune. Pare QuU k< ns The third quarter was fa t and furious Tyner moved ahead again at 34-33, but the Fliers then grabbed the lead 36-34. Tyner once again forged ahead on baskets by Ross and Smith, 38-36, only to have the Flier j hit four quick points to move ahead once more This pattern continued until the game was knot'ed at 5060 with 1:19 to play in the third period when Wamsley an 1 Reinhoklt hit baskets in the last minutn tn take a 54 50 lead at the end of the quarter. The Rodman never caught up, although they trimmed the lead to 58 57 In the la t quarter before Smith and Ro’S fouled out, thus onenlng the door for Monterey’s final surge that moved them •teadilv ahead as they racked up the 81 66 victory.
