ShAfiiiocks Band 78-58 Setback To Walkerton North Liberty's Shamrocks completely dominated the baeketball game Friday night at Walkerton an they rolled to a 87-58 win over Walkerton in a game that was never clone. The win was the second of the year over Walkerton and the two teams will meet in the opening round of the Bt-Cbcmty Tourney this week at LaViUe. Using a good zone deflense and their u»ual high scoring tactics on offense, the Shamrocks jumped off to * lead that was never scoring tor the gtasKenolto aflat just eta seconds with a free throw. Mtekodsj added to the lead with a lay-in after a half minute had passed. The load was increased to before the Indiam even scored and the Shamrocks raced to a 71-34 teed by the end of the third ported. In the test quarter. the reserves played again for the Shamrocks and twice I leads of 38 points were enjoyed I before the Indians cut the final ^ugte to the 87-68 total. Accident Totals Three Cars; No Injuries A three-car accident on Monday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. totally damaged three vehicles tat caused no injuries. The accident occured on Indiana 23 at Walnut Road. one mile north of Walkerton. Mrs. John Bellinger, route 2. Walkerton, was northbound on 23 when she stopped to make a left tarn onto Walnut Road when her car was struck from the rear by an auto driven by John M. Krick. Georgia SL. Walkerton. The impact pushed the BeUtapar auto into a southbound ear driven by Arno Reed. 106 8. Maple Street. North Lfoerty. to the autos, there were no injuries. The accident was investigated by the Imtana State Police and Krick was arrertta for reektees driving and wH come to cuirt at a later date. Walkerton PTA To Hear Speakers On Russian Tour Mr. and Mm. Their game will be played at 6:45 tonight (Thursday). The meet shapes up to be a good one with teams from St. Joseph and Marehall Counties battling for the title in the threeday meet The opening action will put the hoot LaVilte team in competition against Triton. LaViUe has had a lot of rebuilding to do and has been much more suoceatful later in the season than they were earlier. Triton holds a 13-point win over LaVilte In an early December game. Triton was a sectional and regional winner last year. The second Wednesday battle will have Tyner, only two wins this season, against Culver. These two teams do not meet in regular season play, but Culver sports a much better record. Following the Walkerton-North liberty game. New Carlisle will take on Argos. The Tigers, although very small, are very scrappy and capable of *roring a lot of potato. Argos has come quite a ways since their poor start. They have a much lower record at this point than the Tigers North Liberty to definitely the favorite team in the tourney due to their fine 16-1 record. The only two teams they have played to Walkerton and Argon and have a shm 2-point win over Argos plus the two toptadod wins over Walkerton. To Hold Public Meeting To Explain PIJ School Plans Ttare will re a public meeting January 26. 19««. at 7:30 p.m. in the Tyner School gymnasium to discuse current plans for the corporation's new John Glenn High School. Details of the new building program will be explained by the P-L-J staff members, the board of education, architects, and the school building corporation. Dr Merle Strom, of Ball State University and educational consultant for the architects, win act as chairman for the meeting. All patrons will have the opportunity to question any phase of the projected program at this time. Interested patrons are urged to attend thto meeting. PLJ School Board News The Board of School Trustees of Polk-Lincoln-Johnson School Corporation met in regular se>sion January 11, with the Superintendent and all members present, General business constated of signing conlracte for Mra Durwood Strang as 4-H director for Tyner, and for Mm Jerry Rains as a stared saeretary. Methodist And 808 Choose Union Two Walkerton Chiirches. the Methodist and the Evange ical United Brethren, have joined together to form the Walkerton United Methodist Church. This action was finalized Sunday when both congregations voted and approved the union of the two churches. The move took effoot immediately. AAer many months of working together with two ten'OMMber eonwnituees. the arUou was climaxed with the vote on Sam* day. A special Union PrugiSUl will be held next Sunday as part of the regular services that wffl start in the respective churtate and then join at the former Evadb gehcal United Brethren Churta for the completion of the program. Rev Harold Williams and Rear David Eder will both remain as co-pastors of the new church until conference tune at the end of May will help decide the future of the church The church is related to the Northwest Ind ans Conference of the MethodtaC Church. Combining the two churches into one has made a total membership of 758.
