The school b ard was elected by the majority of the people to take care of such decisions and their final selection will be * one that most of the people : u II accept All the i ration • that is po-wible by the people ; will be needed in this situation * a- time will Iw-gin to he a big * f ictm m a few months to k.ep * the entire building plans on - b* he ’ule. St Jo-eph County, and pr hably the State of Indiana. Allow me to give a short historical background of Dr. Urey’s life. Dr Harold I rev was bom in Walkerton Indiana. on April 29. 1893. He was educated at the universities of Montana and California. and Copenhagen’s Bohr In ’.tute and taught chemistry at Montana John Hopkins, ar.i Columbia Universities He was editor of the Journal of Chemical Physics (1933-19401. do not want to an unfortunate situation nr. e like the Bat He cho I r prv-< diy mvoiced in due to taking of ou upam y of the building before it was any ways mar completion. The in<-on\• memes they have had t<> go through certainly are much more than a plan to combine the school* under their prvs< nt facilities until the building wa- in a more completed form. The 1966-67 m hixd war may also prove to have some unpleasant conditions, but certainly is a step in the right direction to get the high i.chool where a broader curriculum can be offered. Transportation will be a little more inconvenient, but the sooner the high school is together, the better the chance for a mure varied and complete schedule for the students. This is still the main objective of the reorganization plan. The board to date must be congratulated on their work in operating this very large bu--ims-. Without the b aiding program. running a school i big busmens and the pre-ent b trd has cleared every hurdle easily to date. genl Hi wa >u ,ne of the first t calculate thermodynamic p operta - fn n spe» tr<«scopi< data and was a r oneer in the - parat »n of i'otopes, e-pecialiy by chemical exchange methods During World War 11. he was director of the SA M (war code namei laboratories at Columbia University. ..here the gas diffusion method for the pnelu lion of U-235 was developed In 1945. he was awarded the medal for merit. More recently. Dr Urey has been invoked in the synthesis of life from amino acids, in the NASA project-. and has revived a ’nodal fi m Pre ide nt Johnson which acknowledged h m as one of the foremost scientists in the United State-- today. I fed that the name for the new h gh school should go under additional consideration Dr Ureys name was submitted ar I I fail tn see how tho-e who chose the name could overlo k this Great American.
