Students Take Part In Concert A South Bund high school orchestra director and thirteen high .-chool musicians from St. Joseph County attended the week long Mid-America Music Camp at Ball State University through Sunday, July 25. More than 360 young musicians from Indiana. Ohio and Illinois were unrolled in voice, piano, per. cussion, wind and string instrument clashes, according to Earl Dunn, camp coordinator and director of Ball State bands. Camp, ers participated in classes, rehearsala, concert^ and recreational activities. Prominent among camp staff m< rubers is Guy Fraser Harrison, conductor of the Oklahoma City Orchestra, who conducted the pupils in a concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 25. Camp director again this year wat George Thompson, directoi of instrumental music for the Marion City Schools. South Bend orchestra director participating, was Recko Germano. Clay High School. From Walkerton were Carol Whitaker, flutist; David Mellin, Nancy Chapman, saxophonists; Kenny Chanman. snare drummer, and clarinetids, Lawrence Mellin, Donna Smith and Sharon Knowlton. Attends Workshop At Ball State John Bingaman. Walkerton, is attending a workshop in school public relations at Ball State University. < Participants are making a study of actual school problems and are working in committees to create a proposed public relation* program, coordinating school and community. IpMructom for the workshop are Dr. R E. Michael, professor of education and director of extended services, and Dr. Louis Ingelhart, professor of English and director at student publications. Red Sox Win 1 In Tourney I he Walkerton Red Sox topped the DiLoreto Club 5-4 Monday night in the annual Mishawaka Tourney to advance to the second round. These two teams wore cofavorites and met in the very first game of the 20-team tourney of which the winner advances on to the District Tourney in Mishawaka in August. A five* run rally in the second inning offset two runs in the first by the DiLoreto Club to account foi the win. With one out, walks to Bill Snyder, Jack HTede and Jerry Rains before Darrel! O’Dell the winning pitcher, singled to left to bring two runners home. Sonny Cripe then doublet! to left field scoring two more and when he was caught in a run-down between second and third, a wiki throw al'owed him to come home with the fifth run. DiLoreto rallied for tw r o more runs in the fifth inning cutting the margin to 5-4, but the game ended this way in the seventh when the Mishawaka Club had the tying run on second base with only one out and the third and fourth hitters at bat. A long drive to the left and a pop-up ended tho game with the Walkerton team advancing to Wednesday night's action. STAR ~ Rev. The 117th annual session of the (Wealeyan Methodist Conference will convene at the Fairmount Camp Ground August 9-13. The camp meeting will be August 14 to 22. Mrs. Emma Milliken spent three weeks with her daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Jonos in Plymouth, Mr. and Mrs. Clem Lightfoot returned home Saturday from a three week vacation in Hackensack, Minn.
