Special Events Joe Setnor captured the Cub Division ping pong tourney by beating Jack Knepp. Knepp had defeated Devon Ross and Setnor boat Mike Wesolek in the semifinals. Dennie O'Connor downed Bnue Doering to take the championship in the Midget Group. A track meet is scheduled for Wednesday, August 4th in South Bend. All boys and girls who are interested, please see the park directors ulxud ev< nts and divisions in which they might compete. 7th and Bth Basketball League On Thursday the Piston# continual their winning ways by downing the Celtics 33 to 29. The Celts had a 16 to 13 lead at half tunc, but couldn't hold on. Chris And* r on and Barry Hughes were again top scorers with 18 and 14 points. Joe Fhher had 18 for the losers to lead their scoring. The second game was captured by the Hawk> 32 to 13 over the Lakers. Frank Ginzer and Doug Anderson scored 10 and 8. while Marty Shupert got nine f -r the Lakers. Monday the I’ -tons gained a league leading tie by beating the previous Hawks 10 to 31. Chris Anderson and Barry Hughe led all scorers with 22 and 19 points respectively, while Kevin Hostetler kept the Hawks in the game with 18. The Celtics beat the Lakers 40 to 26 in the second game. The Celts held a slim 21 to 18 half time lead, but the Lakers coded off with an eight point second half. Kent Amsbarger and Bruce Franklin had 19 and 8 points, as Dennie O’Connor and Marty Shupert collected 13 and 8 for the losers. Joe Setnor and Frank Wilson had six and four for the Bullets. The second game saw the Knickers falling short on a fine rally as the Roval were victorious 25 to 20. The Royals led 19 to 8 at the end of three quarters. Ernie Walls and Mike Wesolek had 12 points each for the winners. whi ,r Grog Shoemaker and Danny Holmes finished with 11 and 8. The Senators lost another game to the Angels 10 to five. Fisher and Dave Gensmgcr led the Angels with two hits each. Ronnie Young and Roy Stout paced the Senators with two and one hits rc pectivelv. Monday, the Senators lost their third game in a row as they fell to Die As 3 to 0. The three runs were scored in the top of the first inning, after which both pitchers pitched shut out ball. Chuck Hen igsmith threw a fine no-hittei although he wa.4 in trouble on several occasions, due to error? and walks. Ronnie Young pitched a good game for the losers. Devon Ros< led the A's hitting attack. STANDINGS White Sox 7 2 Senators 5 4 Athletics 4 4 Angels 4 5 Phillies 2 6 Minor league Baseball On July 22. the Dodgers came through with a big win over the Cards 11 to 10. The pitching for the Card; was erratic. Grig Genringer got the only hit of the game with a big double. On the 23rd, the Yanks downed the Cubs 7 to 5. Mike Wesolek got the only hit for the Yanks and I^UTy Platz and Chris Gensinger helped out with some fine def< n e. J. Wesolek and T. Odle were th« Cubs power hitters. Monday, the Yanks came up with another win. This time over the Cards 7 to 6. The Yanks were down by two inns when Chris Gensinger banged out a double with two men on to provide the winning runs. Shane Hostetler did some fine pitching, but there w ere many errors that marred his efforts. Crafts The new craft for July 26 tn 30 is foam craft. This is the first year for this craft in the park program. Many unique it •ms can be made. Friday, July 30 at 3:00, there will be a scavenp r hunt. All boys and girls are w« come to participate.
