Freedom Os The Press
An event that passed us by as do most of the "days" and "weeks” that get official recognition for one day. was Freedom of the Press Day. This passing without ours and probably 99 per cent of all newspapers isn't going to altur the world any, but in his view, it means this: " It is a day for old-time editors to think back to when they could write that a no-good so-and-so was a no-good so-and-so. ; "In those days, young thieves were named for the protection of the community and not protected from law-abiding society. "Those were the days when a drunken bum was not referred to as a sick man. "In those da,ys members of minority groups who got out of line were given the same pub-
Two For The Price Os None
Two for the price of none is what we get this year. The Fourth of July falling on Sunday this year has changed the plans a little for Walkerton and North Liberty in the annual celebrations. For once, the two towns will not compete with each other as far as programs are concerned with the Walkerton celebration featured Oh Sunday, and North Liberty’s on Monday. The Fourth of July has al-

licity as anyone else. "That was freedom of the press. "There were no libel su ts years ago. If the irate redder was bigger than the editor, the latter left town for a few days, or was carried away." Those days are gone forever, maybe for the better, or maybe for the worse. In those days, often use of the newspaper was doubtful. But in many respects, the job of a newspaper is no different now than it was then. Freedom of the press is vital now as it w’as then. Without freedom of the press, there will be little freedom for the people as we have known it. And if freedom of the press survives, our gratitude belongs to the fearless editors who, in the main, are to be found in the grassroots newspapers.
ways been a big day for the two towns as they join the rest of the nation in a celebration of our countrys independence. Even though the type of celebration has changed over the years from one of firecrackers and other fireworks in everyones yard to a combined effort of supervised fireworks, the moaning is still the same. Make the Fourth for you and your family another safe and sane holiday this year.

This letter is in answer to the tremendous volume of criticism I am receiving over th e fact that the Walkerton Ministerial Association is apparently consenting to the Fourth of July celebration being held on Sunday. First, let me make it clear that the Ministerial Association was not "consulted” as last week's paper indicated. We were TOLD 4hat inasmuch as contracts wero signed, it was too late and there was nothing that could be done about it. We certainly do not approve and most sincerely hope that all Christians will be true and faithful to their church, placing the worship of our Lord above the pursuit of pleasure. When boi|h government and industry recognize Sunday by observing legal holidays on Monday when they fall on the day of worship, how’ can we. as Christians, so desecrate the lord's Day. I personally object most strenuously. feeling that this blatant disregard of Sunday is but representative of the materialistic trend of this day and age. I recommend that we all read Timotfhy 2, chapter 3, verses 1 thru 5. preferably in the Amplified New Testament. May God have mercy. Rev. Paul W.
