Let's Put That Money To Work
Three things happen each year in our towns that make for a “better place to live. One is gasoline dollars returned for better streets. Two is choice of work to be done and three is the work itself. This gas tax money is earmarked for street work and keeping the streets of a town in good condition is very important. Over the years, the streets of our towns have become pretty good, but for some reason, the past few winters seem to have been especially hard on them. ' Walkerton has better streets than most towns its size, but one thing is needed now. That is an improved street to the new Industrial Park and a base laid for the continuation of this street in the future. This is a
It's Everybody's Job
Unendless words are written about safety and automobiles. It has lately even popped up in connection with food as a joke as the push seems to be on to • eliminate carry-in dinners, picnics where unsafe conditions for food exists and about everything that isn't served properly by a d licensed caterer. People have t stated why not bar cars as they £ kill more than poisoned food at picnics and so forth. k However, the constant slaughter on the highway continues '»j and now the busy traveling season is upon us. It is not an insuit to a person's intelligence to remind them of the many little faults that can cause death on r the highways. The same little t mistakes that are made hun- £ dreds of times that never cause trouble can be the same ones that on that one occasion will take a life.

must as the ambitious effort continues to attract industry to this area. More industry means more jobs which will help the entire area's economy. This street is essential to attract the industry. North Liberty sets in a different position. Street work is needed, but with the possibility of extensive sewer work coming in the not-so distant future, this may just be a waste of time at present. Temporary work could easily be best for all now. This one phase of operating a town is a great responsibilitv, but also one that a town council must be very aware of to make our towns a better place in which to live.
Each year there are more and more drivers. Likewise, more automobiles. Naturally, there are more and more accidents. The number of vehicles solidly increases the number of accidents/ and this i.s when the job of prevention does the most good. If each and every person cou|d just take that little extra precaution, whether it be a trip to tjje Xbre or a monthlong.vacation. much of the trouble cciuki- be eliminated. Carelesseness is still the number one cause. It boils down to one thing, you and I are the ones who .can stop this slaughter that last year took over 44.000 lives. The number of- injured and millions and millions of dollars of damage can never be quoted accurately. Let's pitch in and do our part.
