DEATHS □ □ WUUe Alka Willie Allen, 67. of Rt. 1, Walkerton, died at 7:50 a m. Thursday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Rulby Minix, of Rt. 1, Walkerton. He was bom on April 16, 1898, in Salyersville, Ky., and moved to the Walkerton area in 1941. He married Minnie Allen on Feb. 23, 1923. She died on April 4, 1956. He was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church, Hamlet. Survivors include six sons, Grover, Grovertown; Clarence, Cleatis, Warren. CLfford and William Jr., all of Walkerton; seven daughters. Mrs. Mildred Bays, Mrs. Mazie Heister, Mrs. Eva Rice, Mrs. Ruth Howard. Mrs. Ruby Minix, all of Walkerton; Mrs. Margie Minix, North Lberty; and Mrs. Madgie Whicker, Pljytmouth; three sisters, Mrs. Grace Arnett of Salyersville, Ky; Mrs. Susie Carpenter, Grovertown; and Mrs. Lillie Stephens, Fredsville. Ky.; one brother, Warnie Al,len of Fredsville; thir-ty-four grandchildren and six great - grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday at 7:00 p.m. in the Free Will Baptist Church. Hamlet, with Rev. Arnold Minix and Rev. Roy Burkhart officiating. The body was taken Saturday morning from the Ranneßs Funeral Home, Hamlet, to the Dunn and Kelly Funeral Home in Salyersville. where services were held Sunday. Burial was in Stevens Cemetery. Mrs. Ethel Newland Mrs. Ethel Loretta Newland, 79, Rt. 2, Walkerton, died at 3:00 a.m. Wednesday in Community hospital, LaPorte. She was born in Waynesfield, Ohio, Nov. 3, 1885 and has lived here since 1932, coming here from Hammond. She was married Dec. 3, 1901 in Waynesfield to Charles C. Newland. She was a member of the First Christian Church. Hammond. Surviving are three sons. Harry, LaPorte; Charles and Richard, Dyer, Ind.; two daughters, Mrs. Lester Vermilyer and Mrs. James Gourley, LaPorte; seven grandchildren and tc«i great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry Berry. Wichita City. Kansas. Funeral services will be held ait 1:00 p.m. Friday in the Haverstock Funeral Chapel. LaPorte, with the Rev. Elmer Johnston, pastor of First Christian Church, Rolling Prairie, officiating. Burial will be in Ure Oakhill Cemetery, Hammond. The body may be viewed at the Funeral Home until time o£ services. Rev. Paul Loucks of the Koontz Lake United Missionary Church offlclciated. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery He was bom on Dec. 25, 1887. in Warsaw. Poland. His wife. Margaret, died in 1934. Sur. viving are a daughter. Mrs. Ruth Holmberg of Grovertown: a son. V. A Kein r of Rt. 3. Tri Kappa Elects Officers Mrs. Stanley Orcutt was reelected president of Epsilon Chi Chapter of Tri Kappa for 196566 at a meeting Thursday in the Walkerton Comumnity Building. Other officers chosen were Mrs. Bryce Rohrer, vice president; Mrs. Harl^an Kepcha, recording secretary; Mrs. Robert Urbin, treasurer. and Mrs. G. R. Hershberger, corresponding secretary'. Members brought a variety of linens to the meeting to be given to a local) family whose home wag destroyed during the recent tornado. Mrs. John Powell, scholarship chairman, announced that her committee had selected a Walkerton High School senior to receive the Tri Kappa scholarship and had chosen students at St. Patrick’s and Walkerton elementary school^ to receive honor awards. Recipients of awards will be announced at assemblies at the various schools. Mrs. Poweß also announced that the chapter will sponsor a local high school, student. which includes Walkerton, ranked first in the state with contributions to culture, charity and scholarship, they stated. Following the meeting, a white elephant salp was held. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Dale Aukerman and Mrs. Denslow Doll. The next meeting will be initiation at 6:30 p.m. June 3. in the Walkerton Methodist Church. Girl Scout Day Camp Needs Help Tioake Girl Scout neighborhood meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Crystal Steinbeck at Hamlet last week. The meeting was devoted to the planning of Girl Scout Da,y camp to be held June 15. 16. 17. 22, 23 and 24 at Stuntz Pine Forest. A varied program has been set up for the scouts which will be very interesting as wll as educational. The theme this year is. “Other Lands" and we plan to have visitors from Sweden and Iceland to be with the Scouts. We are in need of adult assistance. Anyone interested in helping at Day Camp, full or part time, is asked to contact Mrs. Robert Pontius, Mrs. James Lee, or Mrs. Norris Bussie. Walkerton, Indiana announced that the following two men have joined the staff at Arrowhead Engineering Corp. Robert Bitting as Quality Control Manager, and Joseph E. Miccio as Industrial Engineer. Robert Bitting, who lives at 1612 South 11th Street, Goshen, is married and has three daughters. Mrs. Bitting is a teacher with the Goshen Community School System. Bitting graduated from Indiana State College in Terre Haute. Indiana, receiving a B.S. degree in mathematics and science. He studied statistical quality control at Purdue University. He was quality control manager at South Bend Lathe. Inc., for the past four years and he has been active in the field of quality control and inspection for the past fourteen years. Joseph Miccio is married and has three children. His wife and children will stav on the east coast until the school term ends.
