Guests To Be Featured At Music Festival Two guest conductors will be directing the band and chorus as the Tyner-Walkerton music departments will present a joint music festival on Friday. April 30. in th' Tyner High f. hool gym. Milo W. Hovey, of the Selmar Band Instrument Co., Elkhart, ■will be the guest conductor for the band, and Herman Baker, of Marion College, Marion, Indiana, will be the guest conductor lor the chorus J ■9 Mr. Hovey, Educational Director of H. and A. Selmer. Inc., has a background of over 3(Tyears experience in directing high school and college bands. Most recently he was chairman of the Music Education Department and Director of the Concert Band at Butler University. Indianapolis. Prior to his association with Butler, Hovey was Director of Instrumental Music in the Hammond, Indiana, public schools. Hovey has served as lecturer, clinician, adjudicator find guest conductor in a’,I sections of the United States and in Ontario, Canada. In the latter capacity, be haa appeared with the Unjt<d States Navy Band, the Canadian Air Force Band, and many AllState High School Bands. Numerous instrumental methods and books of ins ructional material written or edited by Hovey, are widely used in the schools of the United States and Canada. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, honorary holasUc fraternity, Phi Delta Kappa, fraternity of men in education, and of the following music fraternities: Phi Mu Alpha, Kappa Kappa Psi. and Phi Belta Mu. a ■IJ Mr. Baker holds a Masters degree in music from Northwestern University. He taught music at Houghton College. Houghton, New York, for four years. For many years. Bilker was director of the music department of Marion College. Marion, Indiana. Also, found r and director of the A Capella Choir which did extensive traveling. He is presently director of the College Coll giate Singe-s. the First Baptist Church choir in Elwood, Indiana, and also the Grant County Home Demonstration Chorus. Has been adjudicator of many voca\ and choral contests and has acted as special conductor of various choral organizations on numerous occasions. He is a member of the following professional music organizations: National Association of Teachers of Singing and also holds special certificate of Pedagogy in this game organization; is a member of the Music Teachers National Association, Music Educators National Conference, and also listed in Who’s Who of American Educators. The public Is Invited and urged to attend this program that wil’, begin at 7:30 pm. Admission will be fifty cents for adults and 35 cents for students.
